[edit] Seaforth McKenzie's
Thanks - I am now realised how bloody complicated it is going to do a good disambig on the name and the game - I must explain sometime - my knee is fixed by lots of walking, no tv, no radio and no teenagers for a week - and plenty of air not far from garden island (clue!) no sunburn whatsoever - hope yours fixed up! SatuSuro 14:24, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- Sigh - when we get mount isa, kalgoorlie and port hedland all in the one go, then we reach for gnangs flamethrower I say :) Kenneth Seaforth McKenzie was an old guildfordian - author and mates to tge big names in sydney in the 30's and 40's - Seaforth McKenzie was a new zealander who did a runner on his family there and lived on penguin island for 20 or so years - neither have been done but.... - Rumour has it - before he saw the light (which one it was, or was it the switch) our mate moon had 3 or 4, I've only got 2 and a half at the moment. the main thing is to realise how many you have or feel compelled to check/read/watch... it can be nothing short of hysteria if you accidently keep some user pages on yr wtchlist - some of my obscure arts never show up - it can depend on what you have on yr list. oh well. SatuSuro 23:37, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- Wow - I'm impressed by Hesperian's comment below - that's what I call keen - ok I'm but a wimp at 2 and a half - wow - better get back to work, its off to unreality we go etc SatuSuro 15:05, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Don't ever start me on reality. At my age the memory of heisenberg's improbablility theorem printed on the front of tee shirts at uni - and the vast store of what become boring jokes from the late douglas adams about probability and improbability leave any sense of what reality could be enough to start the most boring blog in the universe - better than vogon poetry! SatuSuro 15:11, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Hey - its like finding a mallee fowl nest for the first time - there's no welcome, there's no post from an irate editor about sandboxes, there's just the steady clogging the bandwidth and server space - its a gem - maybe some sort of throttled turkey award - or little yellow duck (viz dont bite the newbies principles) that hasnt found its sandbox yet? SatuSuro 15:29, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Watchlist
I don't think there's a limit. I regularly clean mine out, and I still have 4000 at the moment. Moondyne had over 10,000 before he wiped it and started again. Hesperian 00:34, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- It has its benefits and its drawbacks. On the one hand, nothing escapes my watchlist - yes, I have Port Hedland on there - but on the other hand, you find yourself not even bothering to look at most edits; unless the article is a high priority, you rely on user names / edit summaries / instinct to tell you what edits to check out and what to let slide.
- I've only logged on for a sec; no time to check it out now. I'll have a look tonight. Hesperian 08:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Melbourne suburbs distance
Hi, thanks for helping with the suburbs of Melbourne, however shouldn't the distance be measured in a straight line, not along the train line or road? JohnnoShadbolt 13:21, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Wonderful work with Infobox Australian Place |
Hey!
I really commend your work with WP:IAP, it makes a huge difference. I noticed you were editing Template:MelbSuburbBox1 the same time I was coz i kept getting edit conflicts (so i moved to Template:Infobox Australian Suburb2 instead.
Anyway, keep up the good work! --TheJosh 06:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Gentles does it vs Rottweiler
Maybe you should let gnang and moon know as well - there's the possibility that with holidays starting we're going to get this style of editing on certain arts and we will have to invent a new welcome template specifically for this sort - yellow ducky in the bathtub image with rottweiler image and perhaps some careful delicate explanation of fear of death of bandwidht and wiki server collapse... SatuSuro 08:33, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

- Ah the silent unresponsive type plodding throughthe trenches unflinching. I am sure there is somewhere someone has done a psych profile of the range of wiki newbies. SatuSuro 12:52, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Meadow Street
In the Great Eastern Highway article, you state that Meadow Street is signed as State Route 51, not State Route 52. The latter is true, however. If you don't believe me, take a drive out there; after all, I live in the northern foothills, and know all about the roads in the Guildford-Midland area.--M W Johnson 12:57, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Oh, and if you think that is unreliable signage, take a drive both down and up Roe Highway sometime. There are at least 3 incorrect signage occurances heading on the highway southbound, and one heading northbound. See if you can find them!--M W Johnson 13:08, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Ohmigawd local knowledge again - you need to come up for a cup of tea/tinnie so we can have a laugh about the DLI lack of checkers before they put out the new road directories (!)
Actually - between the Guildford or Helena road bridges and west Midland/Woodbridge the visual chaos for the average punter has not been helped by the signage anyways SatuSuro 02:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Brisbane suburbs infobox
Hi,
I see that you're replacing the old template "BrisSuburbBox" with the new infobox. Thanks for doing this! However, I have started a discussion on WP:AWNB#Median_property_prices_in_Brisbane_suburb_articles that might interest you, concerning the "Property Value" field that you're including in all of them. I thought that as you were one of the ones doing a lot of the work, that it might be of particular interest to you.
Cheers,
Lankiveil 02:16, 3 December 2006 (UTC).
- I concur, and thanks! However, I've put the suburbs which are in Pine Rivers into their own category (instead of Brisbane), as technically they are not in the Brisbane LGA. --Arnzy (talk • contribs) 07:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WP:IAP text size
To be honest - all of it? :) Take a look at an article that uses Template:Infobox Bridge, such as Tasman Bridge - the 90% text actually looks pretty good :) -- Chuq 02:34, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

A side issue from the issue being kept on the wiki perth project talk page - why not a list of names of roads/malls/arcades in Perth CBD? (possibly including historical) watcha think? Possibly a way of keeping tabs of things as they progress? SatuSuro 14:54, 3 December 2006 (UTC)?

[edit] Thank you
Hi Orderinchaos78, thanks for your comments. While I have been plodding around Victoria in your dust cloud, I have noticed you have been on a whirlwind trip around Australia, with a mighty effort on infoboxes, occasionaly hovering for substantial edits as well as keeping the burbs honest during your tour of duty. Where did you get the figure of 9000 from as the population of Potts Point? I got the previous number from the 2001 census results. 9000 is a very unlikely round figure. --Gene_poole 02:37, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Backwards and uspdie dnow
I am hoping to catch up with gn soon to compare notes on a ver large number of jpegs - they might or might not direct a Perth CBD photo set - or not. Getting so caught up in the maritime hist project (did I tell you) and bits of indonesia and general scattered loose head stuff that - no there seemed to be a general seized moment like all other 1,432 threads that I have had the pleasure of inflicting upon others :) - I mean my watch lists is closwly creeping to 3,000 and my edit - well I havent even found a working counter - probably 99.98 percent talk page or something like that. Anyways keep in contact - need to nut out a number of Perth project issues! SatuSuro 13:16, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I saw your note on Satu's page and see that you do requests (just joking). If you or anyone else reading this is going down Mandurah way in the next week or so, I need some shots of the Dawesville Cut. Else I'll go down myself in a couple of weekends time. —Moondyne 15:33, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- That's be fantastic OIC. If possible from the estuary end towards the ocean, particularly taking in the bridge (and if you can get it into the frame, the ocean entrance). Also from the bridge looking down towards the opening into the ocean. And, if possible, the sandtrap on the south groyne (there's some machinery and a small groyne which runs perpendicular to the main south groyne which catches the sand drift coming from the south. And anything else you think worthwhile. Cheers. —Moondyne 00:54, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, Orderinchaos78, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. You can support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!
[edit] Whinge
I was thinking of making a wikimedia extention, like ParserFunctions, say called ParserCode that would provide a complete programming language within the page.
ex:

That would look through the first 10 parameters fed to the function, outputting them. --TheJosh 07:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

- Got your template working, although differently to how you had it. The master IF is clearer now, the top half is the short version, the bottom the long version. Currently the short version is creating a new table for each row, but you could change that behavior, by removing the
{ class="wikitable" style="margin: 2px;"
and replacing it with a-
, and also changing the line} | { class="prettytable"
to| { class="prettytable"
. You would probably want to move that line to the last line so there is no bad whitespace. --TheJosh 12:40, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't think you should be tagging places out of WP:AUSPLACES when you tag them into WP:WA. I think of it as akin to the category system: Until we have , we categorise articles into both and . In the same way, until/unless someone creates WikiProject Western Australian places, articles like Barrow Island (Western Australia) should be tagged into both WikiProject Australian places and WikiProject Western Australia.
The other way to look at it is that this article still comes within WP:AUSPLACES defined sphere of interest. There's no OWNership of articles here, so we can declare an interest in an article but we can't tell another WikiProject to lose interest.

Where would I be able to get information on this? I've always been fascinated by how telephone systems work and especially the way telephone numbers are allocated. [edit] Gardenvale Suburb
(for my ref: *)
Hi. There are two Gardenvales - one is Gardenvale 3185 and Gardenvale 3187. Can you fix that up by making two articles one Gardenvale (3185) and other Gardenvale (3187). Maybe even a Gardenvale (Disambiguity) giving links to both suburbs. Cheers136.186.1.197 21:36, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I've looked on Auspost, Australian Gazetteer and in the Melway but can only see one Gardenvale (3185) - 3187 is the postcode for its neighbour to the south, Brighton East. On searching Google I get 2 matches (with 37 duplicates) of two federal awards with addresses in Gardenvale 3187 which are clearly in the 3185 one (Perfect Blinds and Stripwood Antiques, 113 and 131 Gardenvale Road). My 1998 UBD suggests Gardenvale was at that time an ungazetted locality split along Gardenvale Road between Elsternwick (3185) and Brighton East (3187) - this may explain the odd distinction. Might actually give Glen Eira a call and see what they say. Thanks for bringing it up. Orderinchaos78 22:41, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Also, don't forget to call Bayside City Council because the Gardenvale 3187 is in Bayside. I do recall someone telling me that Gardenvale 3185 is the smallest suburb in Victoria.136.186.1.193 03:39, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Don't get me wrong Boston is leafy enough but it is a different kind of leafy-likeliness. --AresAndEnyo 21:57, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I'm still organising present and last minute things
Otherwise I would have sent you a very long email. So enjoy - have really enjoyed working with you and watching your endless edits pass by on my watchlist ;0 - have a very safe christmas - and dont let the turkeys invade - literal or metaphorical - hope to talk to you againas always in the near future in this old goldfishbowl! translate - all that means happy christmas and a bloody good new year! I think I better archive and shut up shop before I even try to explain the hundred threads of thought I was going to send email about.... later! SatuSuro 10:12, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mooroolbark
Somehow I've managed to fritter away all my 'pedia time tonight ushering B. brownii through TFA. Didn't get to Mooroolbark. Sorry. No guarantee I'll get to it tomorrow either (as I'm sure you'll understand). But I won't forget. Hesperian 12:58, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- I had a look earlier today; as you said there's not a lot I can do at the moment; you seems to have handled it reasonably well. Hesperian 11:54, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Christmas Day
Its disturbing to see how busy wikipedia is on christmas day - need heads up on Kings Park- It might need watching more carefully.... I am not here ! :) SatuSuro 01:12, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cape Schanck, Victoria help with info box image please?

[edit] RFA
Would you be interested in being nominated for adminship? Hesperian 10:44, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- There's no rush. Do your reading, if you haven't already. Make sure you're familiar with the RFA process. Get your edit summary usage up to 100%, if it's not already - it looks pretty darn close to it. Have a look at why some nominations have been opposed e.g. Gnangarra's was opposed by one editor because of a perception of minimal involvement in the AFD process. Have a think about how you would answer the RFA questions. I'll have a think about, and talk to others about, phrasing a nomination. Let me know when you're ready. One last point: if you would prefer to be nominated by someone else, I'm happy to defer to them. Hesperian 11:51, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- Also have a read of current discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_adminship as they indicate what is the current big issue with RFA at the moment. also here's a link to my rfa as suggested, but I think this current RfA may hold more of an insight. Gnangarra 01:43, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'll add my support to this idea also. If you do decide to proceed, my advice is to be very prepared, and not take it too personally if it goes awry. It is a bit of a lottery, despite your good credentials. —Moondyne 06:03, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- Take care - we're with you - (as you can see here) just let no turkeys graze here before you've got your blunderbus loaded.... SatuSuro 08:56, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've had a chat to a few people by email. Everyone seems to agree that you would make a good administrator, but there are a few doubts about whether you would have an easy ride through the RfA process if we go for it now. Heads wiser than mine have suggested that you should get a featured article under your belt first. How do you feel about that? Hesperian 11:03, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- If you want to make getting an article featured a priority, I'd be happy to collaborate with you to make it happen. Just pick an article and let me know... so long as it isn't something utterly tedious... like a plant.... :-) But seriously, I'd like to be involved. Hesperian 11:18, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- before WP:SNOW and a force go now aka my rfa or complaints about campaigning suggest some thoughtful archiving especially since this will have a couple of weeks, before it eventuates. Gnangarra 11:20, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removal/ redirecting of Thuringowa City Council
Hi Orderinchaos78, I invite your input into the Talk:Townsville,_Queensland#further_disambiguation_of_Townsville discussion, RE your redirecting of Thuringowa City Council. Thanks, Alec 10:19, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hamersley
Hi. Thanks for e.mail, reply tomorrow. Just noticed this yr note at hesp's. I have come across a few suburb articles when wikilinking related things. This is way above those in quality. The only comment I can make is the difficulty of representing a suburb with a picture. Maybe a plan view from somewhere? Fred 13:20, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
P.S. Politics section is very good. Take your skills to the Western suburbs pages. "They consistently vote Liberal" is about all you get. Slightly weighted phrasing throughout these arts. Fred
I'm speechless. Your templates are amazing. Are the colours arbitrary? Think the one at Hams. has the edge for legibility. The other for neatness, is undisruptive. Is temporal data ok from WP POV or do you anticipate it will be updated. Probably will be. Tables with data already entered are simpler for wikidiots like me to edit. I didn't realise Hamersley was your bench mark. My new years Resolution will be to make better use of my subpages, as you have. Regards Fred 14:15, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Yes, Base line.
Colours from a template also created by you! I'm starting to glean how they work from this conversation. I'm going to start swiping your code, as well. I'm afraid your reply requires another email. Asleep at the keyboard currently, so tomorrow. Except for this mad idea:
-
- User definable tables. A drop down menu to choose an election result. Should be easy :)
Did I hear a whisper, by the way? Fred 15:23, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Watermans
I saw ref to this in some talk somewhere - and did some links - please feel free to respond whether you think the links are appropriate or not. Been seeing movies non stop - youngest and I at flushed away tonight - and was intrigued at the interspecies rivalry - I think my failed attempt at Rats in popular culture the other am will probably evolve into anthropomorphic stuff - and the link with politics in this stuff is amazing. I wonder if someone has done a phd on aardman and shrek peoples work yet? it deserves it. SatuSuro 15:11, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

- The mad tagging today has eventuated in the ultimate - it was Purwodadi Grobogan (or somethink like that) intro sentence with about three links - then a huge article and not one done. V frustrating - it really intimidates my sense of links and possible links being ignored. As for the sad sad item - either afd or redirect or - we need to populate from the talk pages where we have hasshed the bloodyt subject for what feels at least a year. If youwere part of that ngoing dialogue was it on someones talk page or a n article talk page I canno remember... SatuSuro 04:09, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Two comments on what you just said on Friday's page
I agree with you in general, but...
- Blocking isn't punishment, so issues of double jeapordy don't exactly apply. In the event of continued misdeeds, looking at past blocks provides insights into whether continued patience is likely to be rewarded.
- I mislike the differentiation between administrators and non-admins that some users are so fond of making. I wish you wouldn't encourage it.

Pardon me, I thought these were older docs. Came in at end of conversation thread. I can add nothing to this. Must ask you about Battye and upload. Regards Fred 05:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- Welcome. I'll try to help out with Hamersley article however I can. It is amazing to me how often things turn out to be interesting if you look into them deeply enough. When I was writing Yagan, I came across a passing reference to a "T. J. Pettigrew". No reason to believe there's a story there, and I almost didn't bother looking into it. But I did, and the end result was an article on the intriguing Thomas Pettigrew. Hesperian 13:05, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] image on commons
HI I've delete the version here and fixed the links to point to the new image. When you move an image to commons you dont need to alter the name, when the image is deleted from here all the links still work. Gnangarra 00:56, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Caulfield East 3145
Hi, Can you please find out for me what are the boundary of the suburb Caulfield East? Would it be Neerim Rd, Grange Rd, Kambrook Rd and Booran Rd? Thanks 203.213.97.70 05:12, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yep - south, east, west and southwest respectively - with the north being Station St, Smith St and Dandenong Road, putting Caulfield train station and Monash Uni Caulfield Campus (on Dandenong Road) within the boundaries (Monash's website [1] appears to confirm this interpretation). Hope this helps :) Orderinchaos78 05:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I can tell I've been on too long
When I try to do something like work on three projects and cannot even link that bloody meetup page properly. (Longhair did a bit) its just an idea - I suggest somewhere in the city on a weekend - preferable a saturday - open to all - I would say somewhere politically loaded like the bell tower - :) SatuSuro 07:02, 30 December 2006 (UTC) Sigh, another email SatuSuro 07:05, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

- In that portal thingy I had asked cj to rebuild it so that we had the state projects - but I think I put it inside a section of his talk - and he didnt see it SatuSuro 08:19, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
