Arthur Cronquist

Arthur John Cronquist (19. marca 1919, San José (Kalifornia) – 22. marca 1992) - botanik amerykański, zajmujący się systematyką i filogenezą roślin naczyniowych, specjalizował się głównie w rodzinie astrowatych (Asteraceae). Jest również twórcą systemu klasyfikacji roślin kwiatowych (system Cronquista[1]), opublikowanego w pracach: An Integrated System of Classification of Flowering Plants (1981) oraz The Evolution and Classification of Flowering Plants (1988). System ten zyskał dużą popularość i do dziś jest jednym z częściej używanych systemów klasyfikacji okrytonasiennych. Współpracował z Armenem Takhtajanem, zaproponowana przez Cronquista klasyfikacja roślin nosi wyraźne wpływy współpracy z Tachtadżanem oraz innymi botanikami z Instytutu Komarowa.
