María Eva Duarte de Perón (May 7, 1919 – July 26, 1952) was the second wife of Argentine President Juan Perón. She was first lady from 1946 until she died in 1952.
By the time of her death, she was one of the most powerful women in the world. She is known for her work in many charitable and feminist causes, and became an icon to many people in Argentina. Her life inspired both a musical and a movie called Evita. The movie starred Madonna.
When she died (of cervical cancer), her corpse was embalmed. After her husband was overthrown, her body was lost for almost 20 years, until it was found in Italy. It was brought back to Argentina and buried with her husband after he died in 1974.
