Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore)

The Mass Rapid Transit or MRT is a train system in Singapore. The first bit of the MRT between Yio Chu Kang and Toa Payoh was opened in 1987. So it is the second oldest metro in South East Asia, after Manila's LRT. Every day 1.338 Million passengers use the MRT. The system is 109.4 kms long and has 64 stations. Trains run from 5:30 AM to 1:00 AM. The trains run every 5 minutes in the day, about every 10 minutes in the early morning and late evenings. It is operated by the SMRT Corporation and SBS Transit.

Every station has:
- at least 4 ticket machines
- restrooms
- Passenger Service Center
- Payphones
- Access control gates
- Plasma and LED screens for information
- Access for disabled(except two Stations)
Some stations have:
- ATMs
- Supermarkets
- Kiosks
- Bus interchange
