[edit] Villeneuve disqualification
Jacques Villeneuve's qualification was disqualified because he ignored yellow flags in free practice. He ran under probation because a similar incident happened during the practice session of the 1997 Italian Grand Prix. He was suspended for the race, but the Williams team lodged a protest and Villeneuve was allowed to race, starting from pole position. He finished fifth and the final decision was going to be given before next race, but team withdrew its protest and Villeneuve was disqualified, but allowed to race in the last race of the season.
