From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aether is a fictional planet in the Metroid series, and the setting for the video game Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It is located in the Dasha region, and is home to two warring races, the Luminoth of Aether and the Ing of Dark Aether. In medieval science, "Aether" was a substance that was proposed to fill all of the universe's space.

[edit] Light World
The light world exists in normal space and time ie; in the same space and time as Zebes, Tallon IV and SR388.
[edit] Great Temple
This area is almost untouched by the Ing. Here, U-Mos, the last sentinel of the Luminoth, guards the remnants of his people who reside in stasis. The Great Temple houses the primary energy controller.
[edit] Temple Grounds
The Temple Grounds is the desert-like portion of land surrounding the Great Temple. This area can be split into two major sections. The first region is the Splinter underground hive where the game begins when Samus crashes into it. The hive contains the majority of the deceased GF Troopers (and subsequently, the majority of the Dark Troopers). The second region is the above-ground region, which is very similar to Agon Wastes.
[edit] Agon Wastes
Scorched by the intense heat of the Phazon meteor, the formerly lush Agon Plains were transformed into Agon Wastes, a vast desert wasteland. This is also where the Space Pirates have set up a large base. Samus first battles Dark Samus here, in the Space Pirate base. Agon Wastes is home to the Agon Temple. Within Dark Agon Wastes, Samus acquires the Dark Suit from the Amorbis, the first of the temple guardians.
[edit] Torvus Bog
Formerly the Torvus Forest. When the Phazon meteor impacted the forest was irreparably flooded by the seas, creating an immense bog. Home to the Torvus Temple. Torvus Bog has an immense Underground Hydrodynamo base (which is actually the basement of the Temple). Within Dark Torvus Bog, Samus acquires the Dark Visor from the Chykka, the second of the temple guardians.
[edit] Sanctuary Fortress
This is a cliffside fortress where the Luminoth developed new weapons for use against the Ing, according to Luminoth Lore the Luminoth first settled here until they expanded into Agon and Torvus. Towards the end of the war the Fortress was captured by the Ing. The Ing have turned much of the Luminoth weaponry to their own advantage. Unlike Agon Wastes and Torvus Bog, the Sanctuary Fortress is like no other world. It is focused around technology and robotic creatures. It features a lot of futuristic technology, different than that of anywhere else in the history of the Metroid games. In most other areas, the Luminoth held back on installing technology, so as to take in the beauty of the landscape that was their home. The sanctuary fortress is practically all technology. Everything from the walls to the floor is made out of alloys or translucent blue glass, and robots and drones are practically everywhere. Within the Ing Hive, Samus acquires the Annihilator Beam by defeating Quadraxis, the third temple guardian. Quadraxis is also the largest boss in Metroid history, with the possible exception of Kraid.
[edit] Dark World
This dimension was created when the phazon meteor struck Aether. Organic matter and energy from Light Aether is rapidly corroded by the atmosphere here, including the shielding on Samus' powersuit. The harmful effects of Dark Aether's atmosphere are negated when inside the protective spheres generated by the light crystals placed around Dark Aether or if the light suit has been aqcuired. The Ing thrive here.
[edit] Sky Temple
The temple of the Ing where their Phazon-enhanced Emperor resides with the main Ing energy controller. Twinned with the Great Temple. Is protected by nine keys hidden around Dark Aether. Is a great source of Phazon, and therefore attracts Dark Samus.
[edit] Sky Temple Grounds
The Sky Temple Grounds is the land surrounding the Sky Temple. This region is desert-like, similar to Dark Agon. It contains a large concentration of Phazon, as well as many of the stronger Ing and Darkling species, like Hunter Ing.
[edit] Dark Agon
A shadow of the already barren Agon Wastes, this is where the Ing have one of the Energy Controllers.
[edit] Dark Torvus
A shadow form of Torvus Bog, much of this is underwater, but the dark water here is actually poisonous to Samus. The Ing have another Energy Controller hidden here.
[edit] Ing Hive
The main base of operations of the Ing horde, this is a corrupted version of the Sanctuary Fortress. Much of the Luminoth weaponry has been taken here, and improved upon. Is home to the third stolen Energy Controller.
