[edit] The Sword Of Aeons
One of the most feared weapons in the whole gaming world. This is a major weapon in the RPG game Fable and Fable The Lost Chapters. It was forged long before the Old KIngdom and was used by a powerful lineage of kings called the Archon. They used the Sword to rule over Albion. But after a while the Sword began to change them. The world was slipping into darkness. Soon towering guards were summoned to protect their castles and structures. People were killed for no reason. Suddenly the Sword and the whole of the Old Kingdom disappeared into darkness.
Centuries later the Sword was still lost but there were a few people who tried to uncover it to bring back the peace of the Old Kingdom before the kings were corrupted. They never succeded. But the Archon's lineage lived on through a particular family passed down to a mother and her two children. A boy ( the main protagonist in the game) and a girl. Undortunately for them a sinister 'thing' since it wasn't a hero. He wasn't even a man heard about them and wanted to unlock the Sword to fuel his hatred to the rest of the world. He captured the mother and the sister but the boy escaped. Later on he used one of the boys now a fully grown mans friend and teacher to unlock the Septimel Key that would activate the ancient Focus Sites across Albion which would unlock the Sword.
The hero was unable to stop Jack for that was his name. Jack Of Blades. He took the mother and daughter to the Chamber of Fate in the Heroes Guild where the Hero was trained. There Jack slit the mother's throat and as she fell her blood touched the Sword and it was unlocked. Jack took the Sword and tried to kill the Hero with it. If he had succeded he would have use it to make Albion burn but the Hero managed to defeat him and then have the choice whether to kill the sister and take the Sword for himself and rule or cast it away and destroy it forever. That is the main choice in the main game Fable and it finishes after that but in The Lost Chapters it continues with or without the Sword and the Hero has to permanently destroy Jack once and for all.

[edit] Saskatchewan Isotope Laboratory
The Saskatchewan Isotope Laboratory (SIL) in the Department of Geological Sciences, University of Saskatchewan has facilities for the analysis of a wide range of stable and radiogenic isotopes for use in environmental, palaeoclimate and geological investigations.
The SIL is fortunate to have a range of modern equipment, supported by an active group of staff and students. The SIL provides analyses in many isotope systems, including Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd and Pb-Pb analyses of rocks, minerals, ores and other samples; H, C, O and/or N analyses of water, carbonates, phosphates and organic materials. Analytical capabilities in non-traditional isotopes such as Cr, Ca and Mg as well as in U-series dating are also being developed.
Projects undertaken at the SIL regularly range from local, provincial, national to international in scope and are performed in collaboration with academics, government agencies, exploration and mining companies or with environmental consultants.
The SIL also hosts a number of databases for international use, including the DateView geochronology and Ion Exchange Resin databases. Various software packages for the processing of isotope and geochemical data have been developed by SIL staff and may be downloaded from this site.

[edit] The Slave Ship Hannibal
Hannibal was the name of a ship which was used during the years of 1693 and 1694 to transport slaves. The ship is most remembered for its disastrous voyage during the year 1694. The ship itself weighed closed to three hundred and fifty tons or approximately seven hundred thousand pounds. Hannibal was led by a captain by the name of John Phillips.
The Captain – John Phillips was a British captain and a member of the Royal African Company. He became deaf on the disastrous voyage in 1694 and did not command any more voyages following that one.
The Disastrous Voyage, which occurred in 1694, began as any other slave trade during that time did. There were seven hundred slaves which were to be taken to the “New World” from Africa by means of the Middle Passage. Upon boarding the ship the slaves were handcuffed to one another in pairs of two. They were handcuffed on their wrist and put in shackles around their legs. These constraints were said to lead to many quarrels amongst the slaves due to falling into one another.
The actual voyage which began with seven hundred became disastrous because during the course of the voyage the number of slaves diminished from the original seven hundred to only arriving in the “New World” with three hundred and eighty. This means on the course of the voyage three hundred and twenty slaves died and were dumped overboard by the captain John Phillips. Slaves may have been thrown overboard to insure that insurance could be collected on the slaves rather than just a pure profit lose. Also some slaves may have jumped out of pure fear of being a slave in an unknown land.

[edit] Saxton, Bradford County, Florida - A Partial History
Saxton, Bradford County, Florida - A Partial History Written by Kenneth Walter Martin, August 2006
Saxton is an area 2 miles south of Lawtey and 5 miles north of Starke. The center was about a quarter mile east of Florida 13. Florida 13 later became US 301. I don’t know the beginnings of Saxton, but US Genweb shows William Bray born 23 May 1890 in Saxton, Bradford County, Florida, In the early 1900s there was a sawmill and commissary at Saxton by the railroad. That sawmill closed before 1926. I don’t know when the sawmill was started. The area was mostly small farms. The 1930s were depression years. Strawberries were the main money crop. Most people raised vegetables for home and market. Some people worked with timber and some had cattle that roamed freely in the woods. The Walter Martin family moved to the Saxton area in April, 1938. They were Walter Martin, his wife Esther and their children Kenneth, Phyllis, Donald, Douglas and Clifford. Florence and Ralph were born in Saxton. Mr. Martin bought his 40 acre farm from Walter Swanbom. Walter Swanbom had worked at the Saxton sawmill. He lost his left arm in an accident at that sawmill. The Swanboms lived across the highway (FL 13) from the farm they sold to the Martins. When the Saxton sawmill closed, Walter Swanbom went to work at a sawmill in Slater, FL near Fort Myers and he seldom came home to Saxton, but his family lived in the Saxton home until they died. His wife was Agnes. His son was Arthur (Buster), and his daughter was Dorothy. Arthur was in the Navy and Dorothy taught school. The nearest store was Griffis Grocery about a mile south of Saxton. Most of the people went to Starke to do their shopping. When World War 2 came the depression ended. Many Saxton residents worked at Camp Blanding. There was a Church of God at Saxton. It was a simple building with gas lights that had to be pumped up and lit with a match. It had no electricity or running water. There was a hand water pump in front of the church and an out house behind the church for a rest room. This church was fully Pentecostal. About 1940 they tore that church down and hauled the lumber in to Starke and used the lumber to build the Starke Church of God.
The Pastors of the Saxton Church of God were as follows: R.F. Kirkland 1932-1934 E.L. Hicks 1934-1936 Felix Hudson 1936-1937 C.H. Shaw 1937-1938 Rev. Bass 1938 B.E. Chesser 1938-1939 R.F. Kirkland 1939-1942
The A.C. Sumner family lived just across the railroad tracks from the church. They moved to Saxton from Lawtey in 1926. Nancy (Granny) Bell lived with them. Mr. Sumner’s wife was named Nancy, also. Their children were Arvin, Aaron, Ruby, Crockett, Winton, Loca Bell and Doris. Oxel and Mollie Nelson lived near the Swanboms. They were related to the Swanboms. Oxel was from Chicago and from Sweden before that.. Milo Lee was a black man who lived near Saxton. There was a crazy black woman who walked up and down the highway constantly talking to herself. Carl and Pearl Hernwall lived on FL 13. He was an unemployed banker, but later he became employed at a bank in Starke. The Nelson Green family lived across the highway from the Martins. They were Nelson and wife, Winifred, and children Oleita, Ruby, Harry and Phoebe. Adam Green and wife, Rosa Mae and children Robert, Grace, Dorothy, Herbert and James lived east of the railroad. All the school children in that area had to ride the Lawtey bus to the school in Starke. Louie Lee Wainwright was a high school student from Lawtey and he drove the school bus. He later became the head of the whole Florida prison system. The “Silver Meteor” and the “Orange Blossom Special” were some of the trains that came through Saxton. Florida Motor Lines buses came through Saxton on highway FL 13.(later FL 200, now US 301). FL 13 was a narrow 2 lane road. We called it “the hard road”. Now US 301 is a wide 4 lane highway. In recent years the Saxton area has become more populated. Part of it is called “Strawberry Acres”. The area is quite prosperous now. Few depend on farming for their living.

The Copper River Record is a small independent bi-monthly newspaper in Glennallen, Alaska. It is published on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. A typical issue runs 20 pages.
The paper was founded in 1977 by Sam Lightwood and was called the Copper Valley Views. It ceased publication around 1990, and resumed publication in mid-2001 as the Copper Valley Weekly. However, plans for a weekly publication never came to fruition and the name was eventually changed to the Copper Valley BI-Weekly although it actually published bi-monthly.
In January 2006 it was sold to Mary and Jim Odden, and renamed to its current name.

[edit] Richard Djerf
Richard Djerf committed what could arguably be the worst murders in Phoenix Arizona.
On September 14, 1993, Djerf forced himself into the Luna residence at gunpoint. Djerf believed Albert Luna, Jr., the Luna's son, had burglarized his house. Patricia Luna and her 5-year-old son Damien were at home. Djerf secured Mrs. Luna and her son by tying their arms and legs and gagging them. When Rochelle Luna arrived several hours later, Djerf took her to her bedroom where he raped and killed her. When Albert Luna, Sr. arrived at home, Djerf forced him into his bedroom at gunpoint. Djerf handcuffed Mr. Luna to a bed and smashed his head with a baseball bat, and then removed the handcuffs because he believed Mr. Luna was dead. Djerf then returned to the kitchen where Mrs. Luna and Damien were. Mr. Luna regained consciousness and charged Djerf. Djerf stabbed and shot Mr. Luna killing him then turned the gun on Mrs. Luna and Damien.
In the end, Djerf went on a seven-hour frenzy of violence, experimenting with various methods of killing before he resorted to shooting and stabbing to death four members of a former friend's family.
The judge who sentenced him to death in 1996 said Djerf "relished" the time he spent killing the Luna family to get revenge against his friend for burglarizing his apartment.
Djerf admitted killing Albert Luna Sr., 46; his wife, Patricia, 40; and their two children, 17-year-old Rochelle, whom he also raped; and 5-year-old Damien on Sept. 14, 1993. The only surviving member of the family was Albert Jr., Djerf's former friend.
"It was all my fault, all my fault," Djerf told a reporter in 1995 before he was sentenced to death.
"I'm not crazy. I don't hear voices. I didn't have a terrible childhood. I just did what I did."
On the day of the killings, Djerf showed up at the Luna home with flowers, then forced himself in at gunpoint. He told The Republic he hadn't planned the killings.
"Then something took over. I'm not saying I got possessed, I guess I just lost control. Everything was, like, speeded up. It wasn't drugs, it was just me."
He tied up Patricia and her son, tying their arms and legs and gagging them. When Rochelle arrived home hours later, Djerf raped and killed her in her bedroom. When Albert Sr. arrived home, Djerf handcuffed him to his bed and smashed his head with a baseball bat, then removed the cuffs. Albert Sr. regained consciousness and charged Djerf. Djerf then killed him and shot Patricia and Damien in the head.
Before he left, Djerf spread gasoline around the house and turned on the stove, leaving a pizza box on the burner. But the house didn't burn.
"Of course I regret it," Djerf said in 1995. "I wish I'd taken someone with me that day and they'd have talked me out of it."
At his sentencing in 1996, Djerf scoffed at the multiple death sentences, saying, "They can only kill me once."
The Arizona Supreme Court rejected Djerf's appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear it.
A warrant of execution was issued by the Arizona Supreme Court in February 2002. The U.S. District Court issued a stay one month later.

Richard S. Moseley, Animal artist, principally dogs. Best known for his work from 1863 to the early twentieth century, he is known to have completed commissions for King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. He was born in Pontefract in about 1843, but his parents came to Clapham in the late 1850's. In 1871, he was living in Clapham with his wife, Rachel, and children Harrold, Clifford and Endura. By 1901, he had deducted 7 years from his age and was a boarder with Miss Emmeline Walter at Worplesdon, Surrey. Many of his paintings were of specific dogs, such as of Beau, an important early pillar of the Mastiff stud book, depicted with a pug. Moseley often used the device of having a small dog in a picture to emphasise the size of is main subject. One of a Mastiff with a small white terrier is in the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog. He was also the painter of the Irish Water Spaniel, "Captain", which appears in Vero Shaw's illustrated book of the dog. Several of his works were exhibited at the Royal Academy

[edit] Pawn (Programming Language)
pawn is a simple, typeless, 32-bit extension language with a C-like syntax. A pawn "source" program is compiled to a binary file for optimal execution speed. The pawn compiler outputs P-code (or bytecode) that subsequently runs on an abstract machine. Execution speed, stability, simplicity and a small footprint were essential design criteria for both the language and the abstract machine.

Type to Learn 3 is a computer typing program manufactured by Sunburst Technology. It is used by many schools around the nation, and is also used by children as well as adults at households. It's purpose is to help non-experienced key board typers become effiecent at typing, helping them in school and their future career. It includes a series of lessons for the student to complete, and fun mini-games for the student to play to further their experience in other things like typing what they hear, and typing at a faster rate. By the end of the program, the typers are expected to type much more accurately, as well as typing more words per minute or WPM. It is a fairl inexpensive program, and is sold at most school supply websites or computer supplying stores.

[edit] Cheat Day
Cheat day is the concept that individuals should have a day during the week in which they "pig out" and consume junk food. It is based on the idea that such individuals are living a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and regular exercise, and that by consuming unhealthy food once in while, the their metabolism is actually "re-spiked."
Individuals who have been on strict diet all week long and have been doing it consistently, often allow themselves to "cheat" as it often does more good than harm. This practice is very common among competitive bodybuilders. It is often the case that such indviduals look better the day after the contest, after they've had the post-contest celebration meal of pizza, hamburgers, etc. This is because the months of severe dieting may have put their bodies into "starvation mode."
The physiological explanation is that when an invidiual increases calories consumed and adds foods that have been restricted for a long period of time (fats and carbohydrates), this actually speeds up one's metabolism and results in a leaner look - it's like telling one's body, "We're not starving anymore; it's safe to start burning more calories now."
In conclusion, it should be noted that how intensely one should do this is based on individual cirmcumstances and preferences. Some people choose to just go all out for the entire day and eat thousands of calories at a time, while others simply have a cheat meal. This is often deteremined by a multitude of factors such as how rigorious their diet and exercise program is, their age, their alchohol consumption habits, and personal body type.

Eprise is the name of a content management software product. It is also the name of the company (Eprise Corporation) that developed it in the period between 1997 and 2001. The company was originally founded by Jon Radoff.
Eprise went public on the NASDAQ market in 2000. It was one of the last technology companies to go public during the Internet Boom of the late nineties. The company was later acquired by Divine Inc.
In the deteriorating market for public Internet software companies of the early 2002, Divine Inc. went bankrupt. However, the Eprise product and brand were spun out into a new company named Silkroad Technologies, Inc., run by former Divine Inc. founder Andrew J. "Flip" Filipowski. As of 2006, the Eprise product continues to be used in corporate websites despite changing hands.

[edit] The Eclectic Collective
You dont become Bostons most boasted big band overnight. Should The Eclectic Collective debut slide under the right doors and win next years Grammy for Best New Artist, it would be a complement, but it would also be bullshit.
Mission Developing... The snowball first rolled in 2001, when vocalist Dua Boayke and guitarist Salim Akram tag teamed as an acoustic duo called The Kaizen Komplex. The two unraveled politically fueled poetic sets for the coffee shop crowd.
Mission Begun... In 2003, the group gained momentum when drummer Sheel Dave of the Boston metal magnate Irepress signed on to help Salim and Dua twist unique blends of jazz, hip-hop, rock and rhythm. They started calling themselves The Eclectic Collective, but they hadnt truly earned the title yet.
Mission Rolling... Late in 2003, the unit emboldened its eclecticism when keyboardist RP Thompson, bassist Graham Masser, turntablist Special Blend and guitarist Santi Araujo joined the ranks. The extended rhythm section added not only to the crews instrumental depth, but to its multiracial fabric: not only can EC jam, but a group shot of its roster would make for a proper college brochure cover.
Mission Expanded... By 2004, the group had locked down the Boston scene. With the range to serenade rock, jazz and blues clubs, plus the addition of trumpet playing rap artist AfroDZak, EC arrived at the ability to provide undeniable relief from pop culture and its predisposed restrictions on modern music. And to ice the layer cake, they enlisted queen vocalist Noni Kai to beef up the soul and saxaphonist Rob Oswald to polish the brass. The sound finally came full-circle at the rare intersection where jazz, soul, metal, rock and boom bap rev their engines in unison.
Mission Accomplished... With many of their contemporaries rushing annual projects, EC deliberately focused on the necessary efforts needed to get ten individuals clockworking well-synched tracks. The result of their live grind and studio hustle is Time Flies, the bands ten-song debut that transcends niche nonsense and showcases the groups dynamic structure, conglomerate of talent and massive crossover potential in every genre outside of honky tonk.

DIGIFANT - The Electronic Motor Management System
Digifant is the name Volkswagen gave to its in-house derivative of the Bosch L-Jetronic computerized engine control system.
The system contains mixture control with lambda closed loop, automatic idle stabilization, feedback control of the charge air pressure and spark advance angle control with knock control. There is also an on-board diagnostic system.
The Digifant electronic control unit incorporates all the functions of the fuel system and ignition system and provides both the actuation signal for the fuel injectors and optimum ignition timing point for all engine operating conditions.
Injection duration opening signals are provided based on the following inputs:
• Engine speed
• Intake air volume
• Coolant temperature
• Oxygen content in the exhaust gas
• Battery voltage
• Throttle position
• Intake air temperature
The injector opening time is taken from a program in the control unit at 16 points for RPM and 16 points for load for a total of 256 operational points. Injection times can be determined between these fixed points for a total of 65,000 theoretical different opening duration points.

[edit] Mission Netaji
Mission Netaji (http://www.missionnetaji.org) is an Indian non-profit trust established in 2005. Based in Delhi, Mission Netaji concentrates its work chiefly on unraveling one of the long-standing mysteries in world history, surrounding the disappearance of the Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. According to official lines, Netaji Bose was killed in an airplane crash in Taihoku in the erstwhile Formosa (now Taiwan). But based on the various testimonials by the Japanese officers of the war time and the subsequent inquiries held by many foreign governments, there never occured such a plane crash. There are no official records pertaining to such an accident, nor was there an official Japanese probe. (Formosa was under Japan then). Mission Netaji hit fame by reaching the conclusion that Netaji Bose didn't die in any plane crash in Taihoku, even before the commission could infer the same. Mission Netaji tries to prove the conventional crash theories wrong and collect and preserve all important documents that substantiate the existence of Bose even after 1945.
Probes and Results
The Indian government installed three commissions on three different occasions to probe into the alleged death of Netaji in plane crash [[3]]. The first was the Shah Nawaz commission in 1956, under Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru; the second was the GD Khosla commission from 1970-74 under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the third was the Manoj Kumar Mukherjee commission [[4]] from 1999-2005 under Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and later Manmohan Singh. The first commission reached the result that Netaji was killed in the airplane crash as said before. But since the commission was not allowed to visit the site of accident, the report lost its fidelity. The second commission also reached the same result, but that also lacked credibility so that Prime Minister Morarji Desai later rejected the findings of both the commissions. But the Mukherjee commission reached the conclusion that there was no plane crash in Taihoku on the said date or nearby dates, and concluded that Bose had plans to escape to the Soviet Russia. The commission also indicated that the ashes, said to be of Bose, kept in the Renkoji temple in Japan are not his. The commission was helped in this regard by author Anuj Dhar, a Mission Netaji associate.
But the Indian government rejected the findings of the Mukherjee commission saying that Bose in fact died in the plane crash. Under the Right to Information act, Mission Netaji appealed for the certified copies of the records based on which the first two commissions corroborated the death of Netaji. The appeal was rejected by the Indian government saying the disclosure of evidences will wreck India's foreign relations, security and strategies. The same was brought before the Central Information Council (CIC) by Mission Netaji and the CIC's directive in this regard was also turned down by the government. Still the matter is pending with the CIC.
Mission Netaji Objectives
(a) To collect and maintain all relevant intelligence, de-classified documents and manuscripts, photographs and films, records and other objects and materials pertaining to the Netaji mystery.
(b) To form a world wide network of individuals, groups and organisations, having a common vision.
(c) To publish materials pertaining toh the mystery surrounding Netaji mystery.
(d) To help and provide medical relief to the weaker section of the society.
(e) To work for the eradication of illiteracy.
(f) To support the efforts aimed at the eradication of discrimination based on caste, religion and gender.
(g) To provide aid and assistance to the people affected by natural cataclysms or withering accidents.
(h) To organize appropriate schemes, activities and ventures for the welfare and benefit of the people in general, and for charitable purposes.

[edit] Theory of Human Sciences
Framework of reference, which demonstrates the associations between disciplines. In this framework interdisciplinary research, discussions and teaching can be structured. In the following anthropological inquiry, methods and results are focussed (after Medicus G. 2005; with the author’s permission):
[edit] Issues:
● Can we structure interdisciplinarity in the human sciences?
● What knowledge is the foundation for which speciality?
[edit] Method:
In terms of theoretical methodology, (A) complexity or reference levels (e.g. molecule, cell, organ, individual, group) and their “interaction” with each other play an important role in the human sciences. This aspect is partly circumscribed by the term “bio-psycho-social” (e.g. Riedl 1984). In addition, (B) the four central questions of biological research are of particular importance: Two of them are taken into consideration in all of the human sciences, namely: (1) the question regarding the immediate cause-effect relationships in functional processes (causation), and (2) the question regarding ontogeny. In order to better understand life phenomena in all their complexity, it is also necessary to question (3) their adaptive value (adaptation), and (4) their phylogeny.
Theoretical aspects of the central questions (after Tinbergen 1963):
(1) Question about Causation i.e.: Cause-Effect-Relationships in Behavioural Processes
How do behaviour and psyche "function" on the chemical, physiological, neuropsychological, mental and social levels and what are the relations between the levels?
e.g.: Friendly behavior patterns are adversaries of aggression, they can be furthered culturally (Physiology: Endorphine levels rise during grooming in enactor and recipient). Unattractive behavior patterns such as wanton aggression can be culturally inhibited.
(2) The Question of Ontogenesis (cf. Medicus 1992)
Which inner developmental steps and which environmental factors have which effect and when?
e.g.: Children recognize themselves in a mirror at 20 months of age. This is one of the foundations of social cognition, for example of being able to take another's perspective as a prerequisite for cognitive altruism and cognitive cooperation.
(3) The Question of Adaptation Questions regarding the adaptive value relate to the function and purpose of a behaviour.
(a) Question about the adaptive Value to the Extra-Species Environment i.e. to the kind of ecological niche created by the individuals: What are the costs, what are the benefits of a form of behaviour, e.g. in terms of energy intake and consumption?
e.g.: Social bonding is advantageous for protection against predators and collective hunting.
(b) Adaptation Value within a Species: What are the costs, what the benefit of a behaviour pattern, e.g. in relation to familial proximity (cf. brood care) and social or/and sexual attraction?
e.g.: Friendly behavior helps to develop and maintain bonds as a basis for reciprocal support, e.g. during parental care and during aggressive interactions.
(4) The Question of Phylogenesis Why did structural associations evolve "this way and not otherwise" phylogenetically? (Behavior can be seen as "space - time - structures". (e.g. Lorenz 1977))
e.g.: Parental care and mother-child bond were phylogenetic preconditions for social bonds. Within this development in addition to their original function, elements of brood behavior became elements of social behavior, e.g. kissing and grooming.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theoretical aspects of the levels of inquiry (after Hartmann 1964):
(1) Law of Recurrence: Lower categories recur in the higher levels as a subaspects of higher categories, ... but never vice versa.
(2) Law of Modification: The categorial elements modify during their recurrence in the higher levels (they are shaped by the characterstics of the higher levels).
(3) Law of the Novum: ... [the] higher category ... [is] composed of a diversity of lower elements, [it] contains a specific novum, ... which is ... [not] ... included in the lower levels... .
(4) Law of Distance between Levels: The different levels do not develop continuously, but in leaps. [The levels can be clearly differentiated.]
In terms of empirical methodology, the comparison between animal and man and intercultural comparisons are emphasized when investigating the central questions, on all the reference levels, if possible – for example on the biochemical level (e.g. pharmacological research), cellular and organ plane (e.g. physiology), as well as on the individual and group level (e.g. ethology).
• The concepts of the basic questions and of the levels of inquiry are at least 150 years old.
[edit] Results:
An orientation matrix can be prepared based on the central questions (Table / Columns: Causation, Ontogeny, Adaptation, Phylogeny) and reference levels (Table / Lines: Molecule, Cell, Organ, Individual, Group, Society), which comprises those disciplines that have a reference to the system layers of the living world:
Causation | Ontogeny | Adaptation | Phylogeny | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Molecule | ||||
Cell | ||||
Organ | ||||
Individual | ||||
Group | ||||
Society |
In the table the questions and reference levels in italics are also the subject of the humanities (after Medicus 2005).
In this “structural model of interdisciplinarity”, disciplines with a reference to the performance of the nervous system, their questions and results can be allocated and intertwined with each other. Especially when studying the proximate causes (causation, ontogeny), the “basal” reference levels are a prerequisite for understanding the “higher” levels. However, knowledge of the laws of the basal levels (e.g. of cell physiology) is insufficient for understanding complex behavioral patterns or a personal experience. The whole is more than just the sum of its parts. Every reference level is equally important. Many concepts and terms are only useful within specific levels of reference and cause confusion, if they are used on the wrong level of reference.
The areas of the four central questions are very closely intertwined with each other. An “either/or” through the formation of contrasting theories is much further away from reality than a “both/and”. If one studies only the proximate causes and underestimates or ignores the ultimate causes (phylogeny, adaptation), many life phenomena remain inexplicable and many theories remain inadequate. For example: The question of whether “infantile sexuality” is a part of parental care (Freud) [e.g. hugging, cuddling, kissing], or behavior patterns of parental care are part of the social behavior and adult sexuality, can be decided with the help of the fourth central question: in terms of phylogeny, parental care developed before the evolution of social societies (with individuals, who recognize members individually or/and as being affiliated to their group). The elements of parental care were a phylogenetic prerequisite for social ties in some genus of animals, and in the course of evolution they became a part of the (friendly) social and sexual behavior of adults (Eibl-Eibesfeldt).
[edit] Summary:
The reference framework for those disciplines that deal with the functions of the nervous system has a very simple basic structure: It becomes clear when, based on the matrix with the four central questions of biological research (causation, ontogeny, adaptation, phylogeny), one asks and at the same time takes the reference levels (e.g. cell, organ, individual, group) at which the questions are aimed into account. This “bio-psycho-social” orientation framework is the basis for the development of an interdisciplinary consensus: It is the starting point for a systematical order for those disciplines, and also the basis for a consistent networking and structuring of their results. In terms of epistemology: Since the answers to the reference planes and to all four central questions must fit together without contradictions, misconceptions can thus be revealed by inconsistencies.

[edit] Jim the Wonder Dog
Jim the wonder dog was a black and white setter that lived in the United States during the depression. b Mar. 10, 1925 ; d Mar. 18, 1937. He was tested by scientists and scholars, in multiple languages, even morse code. The dog seemed to understand anything that was known by anyone present. He could tell colors even if they were of clothes worn under another piece of apparel. He knew of objects whether hidden or in another place or time. The best scientists of that time were confounded and the truth of his abilities were certified and filmed on a certain occasion although the owner refused all offers of cash to participate in any profitable venture. Jim's grave now draws more visitors every year than any human in the cemetary in Mashall, Missouri. A book was written about Jim by author Clarence Dewey Mitchell , (Paperback - 1983). A documentary movie was made about Jim in the 1970's.

[edit] Colin Henshall
Colin Henshall (1990-2006) was born in Perth, Scotland. He is most known for his attempt to take control of the small village of Kinloch Rannoch, and his impressive football skills. He did this by creating his own army, most notably consisting of Paul Christie, Jane Morton, Tina Wilson and his parrot Spud. He turned all the villagers to slaves and seized control of all property. Eventually his own army turned against him after his tyrannical views got tiresome. Paul Christie tied him to a tree and fed him too hungry hippos. He died on the 22nd July, 2006. That day is now celebrated in Kinloch Rannoch.

[edit] Alexander Zaragoza
[edit] What he did
A Chicago born male around 14-18 years of age. Alexander is considered one of the most influential students to ever emerge into the NISD He was credited with the starting of an anrachist-related group called "silence" The group, in the beggining, was based solely on the disruption of the learning proccess at a school called John B Connally Middle School The groups imfamous and crude pranks gained the respect and fear from their classmates, that induced to the group being able to practice their illegal activities without worrying about witnesses. After some time, the group grew into a criminal organization which participated in drug sales, weapons sales, and although never proven, some say today it is involved in contract killings. Many experts argue that the group is no longer at all linked with Alexander Zaragoza, and that a new leader is in charge. Others though, affirm Alexander has been and currently is the leader of this now formed "mafia".
[edit] The Forming of a Kingdom
Alexander was credited with the idea of forming an anarchist, crime-related group. With the help of a close friend whom we will call, "Ken Crop" Ken Crop was reluctant to join a group in which he would have a high-ranking position, and Alexander promised him a prominent position in the organization. The group began pulling crude pranks on the school, leaving behind their signature cards that read "You have been pranked by Silence and Company, catch me if you can" Alexander was in charge of the keeping and displacing the cards at the scene of the crime, after many pranks, many of the school offcials began to see "silence" as a problem, and began to search for the group structure. Alexander was later on suspected of the group leadership, but as no proof was ever found, he remained clean, and untouched. After the group began to perform more high-level pranks, the group began to acquire attention from members of other nearby high schools and middle schools. Thats when the serious stuff began. Group membership originally began with 7 members, that in time grew to 28 members, give or take, in the original school. After more time, The group spread to over 12 schools, and the membership ended to be over 352 members in school. After the group gained enormous popularity, it became a crime-laden group, the sales of drugs and other perpiherals began. This attracted the attention of surrounding crime groups such as The Mexican Mafia and the Latin KingsThey began a partnership between each other as it is rumored that Alexander had relatives in the infamous Mexican Mafia.
[edit] The fall of Alexander
Alexander was in the top. He was it. If you wanted anything, he was your guy. If you needed protection, and were willing to pay the price, he was your man.
Sadly, but to the luck of the local law enforcement agencies, he messed up. The reason he was indicted is not truly known, although it's known that it wasn't a big reason. The local law enforcement agencies needed to get rid of him, but without evidence, it was the next thing to impossible, too many infamous people had his back. Alexander felt untouchable, and perhaps thats the reason he got pinched. After that, his whereabouts are unknown. He was sent to either an alternative school or JJA. He was expelled from the NISD and from every other San Antonio school district. He is rumored to be living somewhere in Texas, but it has not been confirmed.
Alexander reportedly had the temper of an earthquake but the heart of saint. Ken Crop, when later asked about Alexander replied "He could be your best friend, or your worst enemy, it all depended whether you respected him or not"

1.2.1. Fetal Circulation . Prev. § Next §
In the fetus, the systemic, pulmonary and umbilical circulations have several links. The umbilical and placental circulations are a temporary system for the life and the growth of the fetus, that is abandoned at the childbirth, when drastic changes take place transferring the function of gas exchange from the placenta to the lungs. The right and left ventricles, for the existence of two vascular links, the foramen ovalis and the arterial duct, work in parallel in order to pump oxygenated blood from the placenta through the umbilical vein [9] to the aorta; about 50% of it (saturated to 80% approximately) does not cross the liver but the venous duct reaching the inferior cave vein [10], where also blood coming from the legs flows, lowering therefore the saturation to 70% approximately. Then it flows mainly into the ascending aorta through the foramen ovalis. The flow of the superior cave vein, rather poor of oxygen, flows from the right atrium to the right ventricle and subsequently into the descendant aorta through the arterial duct (Botallo). The saturation of blood in the descendent aorta and in the following arteries is about 60%. The blood flow in the first part of the aortic arc is coming from the left atrium. Here, with a modest amount of blood coming from the lungs (that behave as oxygen consumers in the fetus), also a big part of the flow of the inferior cave vein (with oxygenated blood from the placenta) arrives. Therefore the heart and the brain receive a better oxygenation than the organs of the low part of the body. The aortic blood flows for 60% [11][12] to the placenta and for 40% to the other organs. Other differences versus the situation of the adult are the relatively high value of cardiac flow, the high frequency of the heart and the low arterial pressure [9]; the cardiac flow of the fetus is varied exclusively by the frequency of the pulsations, since the fetus cannot vary the real volume of the cardiac pulse [13]. From the right ventricle, also the pulmonary circulation is originated, characterized by a high vascular resistance and a reduced volume of blood. The pressure in the pulmonary artery is several mmHg higher than in aorta, so a consistent part of blood flows from the pulmonary artery into the aorta through the arterial duct. The pressures in the fetal districts are subject to an increment because of the pressure of the amniotic fluid, which can change according to the maternal intra-abdominal pressure. Therefore we prefer to consider the values of pressure not relatively to the atmospheric pressure, but to the intra-amniotic one, as in the figure 7. Increasing the pressure of the amniotic fluid, an equivalent increase of the pressure of the intervillous space [14] takes place. The pressure value in the intervillous space is approximately 10-13 mmHg [14], as confirmed by other authors [15]: in our model this value will be 12 mmHg. The modifications that happen after the childbirth are evidenced in the schematic diagram in figure 8; during the birth, the interruption of the placental circulation, the occlusion of the foramen ovalis and of the arterial duct, and the beginning of the pulmonary activity take place. After the occlusion of the umbilical vein, the expansion of lungs produces a strong reduction of the vascular resistance; therefore a marked increase of the pulmonary blood flow [10] can be observed. The pressure of the left atrium of the fetus reaches values higher than inside the right atrium, causing the occlusion of the foramen ovalis. Also the arterial duct closes, disappearing within few days.

[edit] Big Barry's Restaurant
Overview Big Barry's was an Old West themed restaurant located in Long Island, New York. There were three locations, Lake Grove, on Middle Country Road across from The Good Steer, Rocky Point on Route 25A, and Huntington on Jericho Tpke where Huntington Honda is now. They were open throughout the 1980's and into the 90's. However, in April 1991 a 45-year-old man was arrested and charged with killing three people, including an off-duty police officer and his estranged wife at the Lake Grove location. After the shooting they lost many customers. By the end of the decade the chain was closed.
The Restaurant The restaurant itself was one of a lot of character. Big Barry's was a theme restaurant before the word was widely used. Before the days The inside looked like an old west saloon (chest high swinging doors and all). Menus were glued to the bottom of a gold mining pan and many meals (mainly hamburgers) were served in skillets. Steaks and Burgers were sold by the ounce (like panning for gold;4,6,8,10 oz.) One night a week they offered a promotion called "The Monday Night Shoot-Out" Before you were seated, someone was given a light gun made to look like a six-shooter and told to aim at a board mounted on the wall with lights around the outside. One light would turn on and then turn off as the next one turned on (they moved around in succession). When you pulled the trigger on the gun, the lights stopped on some kind of prize (a free meal, a special drink glass (shaped like a cowboy boot), etc.). However, after the shooting, quite understandably the Shoot-Out promotion quickly was discontinued.
Tuesday nights became tremendously popular for Wing night. This was long before chicken wings became popular. They sold originally for .10/each.
The Food It was an Old West themed restaurant, so the food was themed in that way. Hamburgers, steaks, and chicken wings were common favorites. It was a typical family restaurant but one with a lot of flair.
The Logo The logo of the restaurant featured a cartoonish looking cowboy. He wore a huge cowboy hat that went over his entire body. He had nothing else but a pair of cowboy boots sticking out.
The Owner The owner (Barry Layne) was very similar to the logo itself. He was a short guy who walked around in cowboy regalia and spoke quite fast. But he could frequently be seen at any of the locations talking to his customers during the restaurnt's heyday days of the late 80's/early 90's. He passed away not too long after the restaurants all closed.

[edit] RBTV
Before the present RB television station was constructed in 1980-1981, the interest in television was already present. With a makeshift studio and secondhand black and white equipment, students were producing class projects, and had initiated a student news show.
At a time when our local communities were negotiating with cable companies, RB administrators challenged the media staff to "push the limits; to investigate the future ways that television could and would be used to improve and impact education, especially in an age of cable-casting into suburban communities."
The Metrovision Cable Company, later purchased by Media One, funded direct playback to Brookfield from RB Studio equipment. Grants from a number of sources, including Jones Intercable and the RB Educational Foundation, have provided additional funds to help with ongoing expenses and upgrades. And, of course, the local communities have been very supportive of our efforts.
Life has been exciting for us at RBTV. The studio has become an unparalleled technical teaching tool at RB. In addition to the many classes which use the facility to tape projects, students in TV classes are learning technical and writing skills while producing shows they know the public will see.

[edit] Wikipedia Slander, Misinformation, the myths it creates and its obstrutions to correct errors.
[edit] 5 S's
The use of the 5 S’s in an organization is to simplify a system. By having a simple foundation it makes it easier to maintain a quality environment in the workplace. Although implementation of the 5 S’s could be a very difficult process, implementation of my processes is difficult. • Sort- The first thing to do in a workplace is to sort through a work area and remove anything that isn’t needed to perform that operation. The goal is to reduce the number of items in the work area. The items that are used in the area then need to be organized in appropriate locations according to the frequency of use. Objects used more often are kept closer to the worker where they are handier and objects that are not used as much can be put farther from the operator or in other storage areas. • Shine- Clean the workplace. This means removing any dirt, dust, or other debris. When done cleaning the area it is then possible to locate the source of contamination and work on eliminating it. While cleaning it would also be a good idea to inspect the equipment used in a work area. • Set in Order- During this operation look at the processes and movements taken by the worker and map them out. Then look for wasted movements or processes taken by the worker that could be eliminated. Analyze the current map and create a new map moving items around to see if the area can be more efficient. • Standardize- It is important that everyone in the company is on the same page. Make sure all workers understand where locations of items are, how delivery of items is going to take place and where the items are going to be delivered to, how many items are going to be produced at a single time and when they are due, and the procedures that are going to be taken to produce the items. • Sustain- Reevaluate the work areas to ensure that the steps above are sustained. Forms can be used to help the evaluation process and to document anything that is not sustained (MacInnes). The theory of the 5 S’s was created by the Japanese. The name of the 5 S’s comes from five Japanese words: Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, and Shitsuke (Saferpak). They used the techniques for not just improving the physical environment of the company but also for improving the everyday thinking process. By practicing the 5 S’s the workplace becomes more organized, efficient and cleaner.

The son of Śānti was Suśānti, the son of Suśānti was Puruja, and the son of Puruja was Arka. From Arka came Bharmyāśva, and from Bharmyāśva came five sons — Mudgala, Yavīnara, Bṛhadviśva, Kāmpilla and Sañjaya. Bharmyāśva prayed to his sons, "O my sons, please take charge of my five states, for you are quite competent to do so." Thus his five sons were known as the Pañcālas. From Mudgala came a dynasty of brāhmaṇas known as Maudgalya.
[edit] Greater Prairie Chickens (Tympanuchus cupido pinnatus)
General Biology The greater prairie chicken stands about 18 inches tall and has a wingspan of about 28 inches. Prairie chickens diets mainly consist of leaves, seeds, berries, and some acorns. During the summer they rely mainly on insects. They prefer undisturbed prairie and were originally found in tall-grass prairies. They can tolerate agricultural land mixed with prairie, but the more agricultural land the less prairie chicken. These birds were once wide spread all across the oak savanna and tall grass prairie ecosystem. The prairie chicken was almost extinct in the 1930’s. I now only lives on small parcels of managed prairie land. It is though that their current population is about 459,000
Sexual Behavior The greater prairie chicken is a medium-sized grouse that was once found all throughout the middle United States. Greater prairie chickens are territorial birds. They often defend their territory, which is related to their mating success. Male greater prairie chickens do not usually venture far from their booming grounds, and they are typically solitary until the breeding season. Their booming grounds are the area in which they perform their displays in hopes of attracting a female. Their displays consist of inflating air sacs located on the side of their neck and also snapping their tails. These booming ground usually have very short or no vegetation. The male prairie chickens will stay on this ground displaying for almost two months. The breeding season usually begins in the United States in April or Early May. During this time the males establish booming sites where they will be displaying for the females. After mating has taken place, the females will move about one mile from the booming grounds and begin to build their nests. The average female will have between five and seventeen eggs with an average near twelve (Illinois Natural Resources Information Network (INRIN, 2005). The incubation of these eggs is done by the female and usually lasts about 21 to 24 days. There are between five and 9.3 young per brood. (INRIN, 2005). The young, are raised by the female and fledge in one to four weeks, are completely independent by the tenth to twelfth week and reach sexual maturity by age one (Ammann, 1957). One problem facing prairie chickens is the ring-neck pheasants. Pheasants will lay their eggs in prairie chicken nest. The pheasant eggs hatch first; this causes the prairie chickens to leave the nest thinking that the young have hatched. In reality the eggs did not hatch and the young usually die because the mother is not there to incubate the eggs.

[edit] MisdiagnosedMiscarriage.com
MisdiagnosedMiscarriage.com is the first site of its kind challenging the idea that a diagnosed miscarriage always ends in miscarriage.
The Misdiagnosed Miscarriage began in 2004 as a result of one author penning an editorial at Epinions.com. She shared her story of misdiagnosed blighted ovum. Over the course of the next year, she received emails in which other stories of misdiagnoses were shared or women just wondered if they could be misdiagnosed.
As a result The Misdiagnosed Miscarriage site was born. The site supports women dealing with a diagnosis of miscarriage and gives them the information needed to make an educated decision regarding when to end a pregnancy.
One link has been found in women who visit the site and end up with a misdiagnosed blighted ovum. The vast majority of these women have a retroverted uterus. They often look one to two weeks behind schedule while the uterus is retroverted early in pregnancy and then later in pregnancy, their dates look more accurate. The stories on the site challenge the ultrasound literature in which state a baby is always seen if the mean gestational sac diameter (MGD) is more than 13 mm with no yolk sac and no heartbeat is seen with Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) levels of 10,000 or more. In a number of women the measurements and levels are much higher before they have a confirmation of a viable pregnancy.
To date, no studies have been completed examining transvaginal ultrasound use in pregnant women with tilted uteri during the first trimester.

[edit] SREEKANTESWARAM TEMPLE
SREEKANTESWARAM IS known for the temple of Lord Shiva. There is another temple by the same name at old Puthenchantha (the area near Overbridge), which has over the years acquired the name Pazhaya Sreekanteswaram.
The Pazhaya Sreekanteswaram temple is located at an inconspicuous place, at the end of a lane opposite the SMV School for Boys on M.G. Road. The lane is flanked on both sides by buildings. The temple has two main deities - Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. There are a few eateries in the vicinity of the temple. The fragrance of camphor and incense sticks wafting across the compound of the temple is smothered by the smell of meat being roasted in spices at the eateries. The importance of this temple began to wane with the rise of the new Sreekanteswaram, but one can still find references to it in the Mathilakam records (documents relating to the administration of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple), dated 1587. The Chirikandeswaram mentioned in the record could bear reference to the old Sreekanteswaram. The old Sreekanteswaram was on the route taken by the King during Pallivetta, a ritual connected with the festivities of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The new Sreekanteswaram is located to the southwest of the old temple. It is bounded by Punnapuram and Kaithamukku on the west, Puthenchantha on the east, the Fort on the south. The railway line bisects Chettikulangara, which is to the north of Sreekanteswaram. Among the old topographical features of Sreekanteswaram, one would find that two aristocratic, old Brahmin houses - the Koopakkara madom and Kallanthattil madom - had some historic importance. Koopakkara madom once overlooked the vast lands, Pandara vilakom, belonging to the King. The Koopakara Pottis constituted one of the nine hereditary trustees of the ettara yogam of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. These Brahmins occupied a pride of place in the history of Venad before the rise of Maharaja Marthanda Varma. The ettara yogam also included the King of Travancore. The Koopakara madom owned a priceless collection of very old palm-leaf manuscripts. Many came here to seek knowledge and refer to the manuscripts, including Chattambi Swamikal. The Kallanthattil Namboothiris belonged originally to Kolathunadu in Kannur. One of them came to Padmanabhapuram during the reign of Maharaja Marthanda Varma seeking to train the heir-apparent in martial arts. But, prior to entrusting him with the training, the King wished to test the trainer's skill and agility. gurukkal, After becoming convinced of his martial skills, the King invited the gurukkal to stay at Sreekanteswaram, which was close to the royal kalari at Sree Paadam palace. This was during the 18th century, when the capital of Travancore was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram. The story of how the gurukkal succeeded in impressing the King is narrated in Kottarathil Sankunni's `Aithihyamala' (`The Legends of Kerala'). Many years later, some of the members of the Kallanthattil family shifted to Thiruvalla. Poet Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri's mother is a descendant of this family. Sreekanteswaram was also home to Sreekanteswaram Padmanabha Pillai (1864-1945), lexicographer and scholar, who compiled the `Sabdatharavali', an authentic Malayalam dictionary. An effort that bore fruit after 20 long years of relentless research, the `Sabdatharavali' was the first of its kind to be compiled by a Malayali. Old timers also recall another interesting figure, Bhaktan Parameswaran, who used to frequent the temple. A writer and publisher, Bhaktan Parameswaran used to promote low-priced religious books. Many a poet - right from Irayimman Thampi to Tulasivanam (R. Ramachandran Nair) - has sung the glory of the Lord of Sreekanteswaram.
[edit] SREEKANTESWARM PARK
The park is the favoured destination of senior citizens and families looking for an evening getaway. Designed to function as a green belt and recreational centre
Earlier the part used to present a sorry picture. A jinx seems to have fallen on the park which is haunted by vagrants and anti-social elements after nightfall.
The only regular visitors are the labourers and derelicts who drop in to spend some time before the radio kiosk or the television set.
The park, which was opened to the public in 1981, is maintained by the City Corporation.
