Google search not working on AWB
Status | Fixed in the next release |
---|---|
Description | I've got the latest version (3.1.0.0), but when I do a google search that normally should produce hundreds of article names, it says "getting list" and then "list complete!" with no results. As a test, I even tried "the", with no results. Google Search was very useful for finding articles with incorrect spelling and punctuation, and fixing each instance in a matter of seconds. If this can somehow be fixed, that would be awesome. Firsfron of Ronchester 23:14, 8 February 2007 (UTC) |

Google apparently changed the HTML of their search page a tiny bit, but I've fixed it. You can download the SVN version now if you're really desperate :-) (see Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser#Getting_the_sources) —Mets501 (talk) 23:56, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- That quick? Wow. I'm seriously seriously impressed. I can hardly believe it's fixed. Not that I don't believe you. I don't understand the SVN page, so I guess I'll haveta wait for the next release. Thanks for the fix! :) Firsfron of Ronchester 00:12, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

- No problem. I don't mind waiting. I'm just glad it was an apparently easy fix. I also use CatScan, and that tool was out of order for six months. Thanks again, Firsfron of Ronchester 00:21, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

- Is this really a bug? It seems like this "bug" can be fixed by shutting down AWB before you shut down your computer. It's just hitting the red X and clicking "yes", after all. Sorry if this comment sounds impertinent. Firsfron of Ronchester 21:49, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- This its a bug as AWB isn't working as intended, now if Mets comes back to me and says yes i know what the problem is but it will take 100 hours to fix so we arent going to put the effort in , i'd say fine it doesn't create any major issues and i'll just try to make sure to close AWB (Gnevin 23:35, 9 February 2007 (UTC))
- It may be AWB trying to force the "are you sure you want to quit?" box open. Have you tried disabling that message box? (by selecting "don't ask again") —METS501 (talk) 03:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Status | Fixed in the next release |

Description | Re-parse option now stopped working altogether |
To duplicate: | A while back I reported that I was having trouble with the "reparse" option not working when the "Skip if no replacement" option was ticked. I just downloaded the latest version, 3.1.1.0, and the "reparse" option is completely refusing to work. What happened? |
Operating system | Windows XP |
AWB version | Unknown |
Workaround | None |
Hmmm……it's refusing to work because I was replacing one category with another. If I go to the "Category tasks" selector and clear it down, the "reparse" works fine. Is it maybe halting because it has already done the category replacement, and doesn't realise that there are further changes to be made? I don't want to have to switch this damn thing on and off betwen articles! HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 16:56, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's because when you have the category replacement/removal choice set, it automatically skips articles when no category is replaced/removed. Perhaps an extra checkbox on whether to skip articles when no category is replaced/removed is in order? —METS501 (talk) 04:27, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

New Multilink bug

- Loaded a Large Category ("Politics of" templates), scrolled to middle, selecting any link doesnt seem to make it move. Unless Mets has solved this? Reedy Boy 12:51, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
- He's talking about the list of multiple links, not the listmaker list. AWB's just reselecting the line after you click on it, so it jumps to the top of the list, and then to the link, making the link appear at the bottom. It's just a bit annoying, but I don't see any other way. —METS501 (talk) 14:21, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Unintentional Template Deletion

IPA template
Status | Resolved |
---|---|
Description | On the page tinnitus AWB wanted to add right above the categories at the bottom. I removed it and saved the edit ([3]). Now when I open the page in AWB it has no suggested changes. The page contains two IPA templates already (in the intro) so I assume it's related to that, but I tried a couple articles that also transclude that template and there were also no changes suggested. --Galaxiaad 03:59, 20 February 2007 (UTC) |

I think this is related to a bug fixed in the next release, but I'm not 100% positive. —METS501 (talk) 04:03, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- This would be because someone had inserted an empty here and between now and December 7, 2006 nobody spotted it. AWB was simply lifting a template from the end of the article to just above the categories, as it normally does. Your edit did in fact remove it, which is why no further changes were suggested. But links and links appear the same, because the s is taken into the link. The 's isn't taken into the link so Person's and Person's don't show up the same. Not that it's a big deal either way, but I assume the reason people include the 's in the link is because they think it looks nicer. I actually think it makes more sense logically not to link the 's (to be clear what article it's linking to), and it obviously takes up less space, but... just pointing out a difference. --Galaxiaad 00:52, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think we need to "fix this". It's better if only the name is linked anyway. —METS501 (talk) 03:06, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK, hadn't noticed what Galaxiaad had noted. I only noticed the issues because in that diff that I did by hand, the two bullet items above were both with the ' and 's outside, so I was basing it off of that. ;) — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 11:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

- For one thing, you shouldnt be doing insignificant edits like that one
- Im sure my AWB registered Edit conflicts before.. Have to do some testing Reedy Boy 12:07, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Whats wrong with my edit ? I'm getting pretty tired of the attitude of some of the people using awb(Gnevin 13:26, 20 February 2007 (UTC))
- I apologise too. But, that is all but what is classed as an 'insignificant edit'. Ie sorta whitespace moves and such... And as Mets501 put it, im not just someone using AWB, im helping maintain it. Reedy Boy 21:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- The edit isn't really the issue is it ? The real issue is the fact AWB ignored the conflict which is a major issue , as I've said before i don't know why your drawing/drew attention to this when i'm just trying to help the project by reporting these bugs (Gnevin 22:17, 20 February 2007 (UTC))
- Back on topic
- I have just been playing around, the mediawiki software doesnt log an edit conflict if the 2 edits are on the same account. But you are correct, there is nothing about the edit conflict if it is on different accounts. I shall add this in Reedy Boy 18:19, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- From my playing about, it is impossible to get MediaWiki to register an edit conflict between the same account.
- However, i know what needs to be done to fix/alert the user of the edit conflict, but i cant work out where to put it... Waiting on Mets501 to read his email =D Reedy Boy 19:44, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- Mets found it for me. AWB is handling the error, it just does a force reload of the page, re-applying changes, it is just not notifying the user that there has been an edit conflict. I have added a messagebox to let the users know there has been a conflict. As previously stated, you cannot do an edit conflict with your own account (ie 2 edits on 1 account). Fixed in SVN Rev 622 Reedy Boy 18:11, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- Good work, but believe it or not, it is possible to have an edit conflict with yourself; it has happened to me several times. Sometimes (very rarely) when you press "Save page", the changes go through but your web browser fails to navigate to the next page, and when you click "Save page" again you get a self-edit conflict. —METS501 (talk) 00:02, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Someone did say on the #mediawiki channel they thought they had done it, but weren't sure. I was unable to duplicate it. I suppose, if the mediawiki software reports a edit conflict, this will handle that aswell. Reedy Boy 12:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Admin bot skips protected pages
—{admin} Pathoschild 08:06:54, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Although i will be unable to duplicate this myself (Not being an admin), the fix will be easy enough, it would be a case of when the page is protected (and by default skipped), look if the account is admin, and if so, allow the edit to continue, rather than skipping. Will look at that later Reedy Boy 12:29, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
if (HTML.Contains("<H1 class=firstHeading>View source</H1>")) { if (Variables.User.IsAdmin) { return true; } else { SkipPage(); return false; } }
Im a bit confused to what exactly is needed. So, i'll commit that SVN Rev 625
That will mean, if the user is listed as an admin on the AWB checklist, they can edit the page, but of course, only if they are a proper 'wiki admin'
The bit about, adminbot was confusing. So i'll leave it as such until i've spoken to Mets501, or you can clarify. Ie, if they are just a bot, they cannot edit a page with full protect. If they were an admin, and a bot, they could, but the account would have to currently be listed in Admin, so, maybe a section for 'adminbot' and then AWB can handle that, meaning they can edit...?
As as far as i know, AWB just goes by its own checklists! Reedy Boy 14:05, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, that should work. Our checklists are pretty accurate, and I don't think we have any admin-bots running AWB; if we do, we'll need a new checkpage section :-) Will test on my account tonight. —METS501 (talk) 14:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

- Pathosbot is listed as a 'bot', you are listed as an admin for AWB. So, this change will affect you, but your bot still wont be able to edit it. As it does it from which ever account is logged on in IE Reedy Boy 19:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- I'm aware of that. When I said I was 'running Pathosbot through my account', I meant I logged the AutoWikiBrowser into my administrator account. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 06:22:59, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I think it just needs some way to check for the namespace and remove it if needed... Reedy Boy 22:33, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, got a fix, that should work
if (Name.IndexOf("Author:") == 0) Name = Name.Replace("Author:", "");

Edit process doesn't work with Cologne Blue skin
Status | Not a bug in AWB, has been referred |
---|---|
Description | The edit process works fine in Monobook, but I first tried it out with the Cologne Blue skin, as that's what I prefer. When starting the edit process on my list of pages, all I get is pages loading over and over again, without any changes being made. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 17:34, 23 February 2007 (UTC) |

Cannot log out
This could be fixed by making 'log in' work when logged in (which MediaWiki allows) or allowing the user to follow links in the AutoWikiBrowser window. —{admin} Pathoschild 05:10:40, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- I think you can either let the users click on everything, or nothing, which wouldnt be very much use if it was the first. Im sure we can do it to override the login. Or, just put a logout function on the file menu - Special:Userlogout? Of course, with the relevant wiki link prefixed. If you would just like a logout, we can do that, and then, we can put the login override, ie if user clicks login, and whether actually logged in or not, they are taken to teh login page? Reedy Boy 09:34, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Strange conversion of newline in advanced find/replace
Status | Fixed in the next release |

Description | I have an extended settings file, with many advanced find/replace actions. When I save the file under the new AWB, and I then load the file again, all <CR><LF> have been converted into a square block, rendering the total find and replace useless. --Dirk Beetstra T C 23:22, 12 February 2007 (UTC) |

somethingwith some thingSave the settings file, and load the settings file, and the rule has been changed. If I manually add an extra return in the xml file, the rule contains two square blocks. - Verified. See what you mean, the square, if you say, copy the some[]thing to like my irc client, it shows it one line. But press enter, and it pastes it on 2 lines. So it would seem the FAR is still correct, but it needs saving in the xml as like some\r\nthing, and then when loaded, c# would parse it and show it on 2 lines. Will look at changing the save tommorow, its 2am for me, and i need some sleep. Signing off Reedy Boy 02:09, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- That would be great. A bit of a waste to see all my settings go down the drain (I had the feeling there was also something else going wrong when I loaded that file (old settings format, it contains several rules with subrules, not one rule with subrules with subrules ..)). As a note, some programs do convert unix-style newlines correctly, but wikipedia does not, i.e. I did not dare to save the page to see if it would go right after saving, but it does not show correctly in the edit-box. Thanks already! --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:53, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

From
ReplaceTextbox.Text = r.replace_; WithTextbox.Text = r.with_;
To
ReplaceTextbox.Text = Regex.Replace(r.replace_, @" ", "\r\n"); WithTextbox.Text = Regex.Replace(r.with_, @" ", "\r\n");

- Hello gregul. I think I see the problem.
\b
is an anchor which matches one of these zero-length positions:- between the start or end of the string and a word character (digits or letters).
- between a word character and a non-word character.
- In the case of the string "tyś.", \b will only match before the t or between ś and the dot (word and non-word character). Since the dot is not a word character, \b will not match after it unless it is immediately followed by a word character (for example, "tyś.f"). —{admin} Pathoschild 20:20:00, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Newline-bug #2
Status | Fixed in the next release |
---|---|
Description | unix style newlines get inserted into rules that generate multi-line replacement. --Dirk Beetstra T C 13:59, 3 March 2007 (UTC) |
To duplicate: | If you have two rules that give more lines of text as the replacement value, and you go from one of the rules to the other, and then move back, 'newline boxes' have been added, if you move away and move back again, a new set of newline boxes is appended (etc. etc.):
Saving and reloading now creates proper newlines out of the 'boxes' (the unix-style newlines; hence the old bug has indeed been repaired) |

- I was going to try to see if Template:Sad face exists, but I maybe I should now use Template:Happy face. I hope it works. Saving the settings, killing the excess newlines and reloading the settings is just too much. Thanks! --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:54, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Does not remember whitespace-only replace
—{admin} Pathoschild 20:36:44, 08 March 2007 (UTC)
- I have experienced this bug on 3 different versions of AWB. I have an advanced search and replace where I search for two spaces " " and replace with one " ". Every time I load my settings I have to go back into Advanced search & replace, and type in the two spaces and the one space. —SaxTeacher (talk) 15:42, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Weird replacement of a commented sentence
Status | Fixed in the next release |
---|---|
Description | When I try to edit the List of musical works in unusual time signatures article a dialog shows up saying "Index and count must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: count". When I click OK a commented sentence becomes something like "⌊⌊⌊⌊0⌋⌋⌋⌋". (See this edit) |
To duplicate: | Pretty straightforward, I guess. Just try it out at List of musical works in unusual time signatures or Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Sandbox. |
Operating system | Windows Vista |
AWB version | Unknown |
Workaround | None |
I know where the ⌊⌊⌊⌊0⌋⌋⌋⌋ is coming from, I just can't figure out why it's left in that form. AWB uses ⌊⌊⌊⌊0⌋⌋⌋⌋ calls to hide certain things from the parser, but then is supposed to put them back. Will investigate this further. —METS501 (talk) 07:12, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- Can't find why this is happening at all. Added List of musical works in unusual time signatures to the "no general fixes" list for now. —METS501 (talk) 06:31, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Index was outside the bounds of the array
Status | Fixed in the next release |

Description | When attempting to edit Ayaan Hirsi Ali, I get a "Index was outside the bounds of the array" error. After clicking on OK, it continues to the diff change page. Around line 184 it replaces

The article at bracket gives more examples of this standard citation convention. --> with⌊⌊⌊⌊1⌋⌋⌋⌋ This similarly occurs around line 140 and seems to have something to do with hidden comments in the article. Auto-update bug
I'm running the latest version; I've been told twice that I had to update, proceeded to run the updater, and then was told to update again. Ral315 » 17:48, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- I had the same issue last night while testing a version I'd built from source. Restarting the program seemed to work for me though - at least I know I wasn't imagining it :) Martinp23 17:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, co-incidentally, i've already fixed that and commited it to the SVN. I've added the version check of the online version against AWB version (the exe), and it wont download AWB unless needed now. So its fixed, well, on the updater side at least. Reedy Boy 18:24, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Was the error message like the below?
MessageBox.Show("This version is not enabled, please download the newest version. If you have the newest version, check that Wikipedia is online.\r\n\r\nPlease press \"Yes\" to run the AutoUpdater, \"No\" to load the download page and update manually, or \"Cancel\" to not update (but you will not be able to edit).", "Problem", MessageBoxButtons.YesNoCancel, MessageBoxIcon.Information);

- I think so, that is probably the generic error from AWB when it cant get the check page at wikipedia. Reedy Boy 19:39, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Incorrect behaviour for "Inside template calls "
Status | Fixed in the next release |
---|---|
Description | When performing a 'Replace Special' pattern with the 'Inside template calls ' option, the bot mistakenly assumes that any instance of are the delimiters of the current template. For example, the bot will see the following three distinct templates (highlighted):

- The following patterns will heuristically work around the problem in most cases if the templates you are modifying are never nested (but can nest other templates). This is not an ideal solution, of course. If you expect nested nested templates, just run it an extra time for every extra level.

- It's because of polytonic (in fact, every template included as a parameter will break our template-moving code). Not sure what to do. This would require full parsing instead of regexes :-/ MaxSem 18:14, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'd like to have support, perhaps in WikiFunctions or WikiFunctions2, for WikiProjectBanners. The same challenge will be faced with that no doubt, as it contains other templates and goodness knows what strange parameters could be lurking within... --kingboyk 18:24, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

- The following patterns (entire text, single line mode) might fix the problem if this is done with regex. They will temporarily replace one template nested in persondata with delimiters that don't cause the conflict; run them two or three times if you expect up to two or three nested templates. This is heuristic at best, unfortunately.
