Basara Kubikiri (首切り破沙羅, Kubikiri Basara^?) is a character from SNK Playmore's Samurai Shodown series of fighting games.

He's a skinny man with a blue long-hair, topless, wears red pants and wields a giant triple-bladed shuriken with a chain, named "Togabitogoroshi" ("Executioner"). Some of his powers are based in the use of his shuriken, as well as demonic powers like moving and disappearing into the shadows or release ghost balls. His distinguishing feature is a shrill laugh.

Basara lived in peace with his wife, Kagaribi, in the village of Tanba, until the monstrous demonic swordsman Zankuro Minazuki came through and slaughtered everyone. Basara's last thoughts were of Kagaribi and wanting revenge on Zankuro. As a result, Basara was able to return to the mortal realm as a sort of ghost in order to exact his revenge.

However, Zankuro was killed. Having no reason to remain, Basara searched for ways to finally rest in peace. Along his travels he discovers that he was revived by Amakusa Shiro Tokisada, and so he heads for Shimabara to kill him. He fails; His soul being captured by Mizuki and eventually sealed away.

Basara appears from the darkness, confused and bewildered. He then calls out to his dead bride Kagaribi. She answers back but Basara can't see her. She tells him she has to go and free the souls of the dead but Basara asks her to stay. Kagaribi leaves but Basara follows her voice.

Basara is voiced by Masahiro Nonaka, who also provides the voice for Kyo Kusanagi in The King of Fighters series. That is until Samurai Spirits: Tenkaichi Kenkakuden, where apparently, Basara has a new voice actor.
Kubikiri (首切り) literally means "neck cutting," or "decapitation," and is not a name, but a title. He could appropriately be called "Basara the Decapitator."
The ghost of his lover, Kagaribi, can be seen during his "Slash" version's supermove, as well as a winpose. She does not appear at all to the "Bust" version Basara.
In Samurai Shodown 3 (his first appearance) and 4, he has light skin, but in Samurai Shodown 5 and later, Basara has white (bone-like) skin. In his Bust mode in Samurai Shodown 4, Basara has black hair, purple pants and light green (fungus-like) skin.
Basara is the only character who can perform a no contest fatality to Rimururu and Nakoruru in Samurai Shodown 4.
