[edit] History
[edit] Samurai Shodown
Gen-an is a member of the enigmatic Shiranui Clan, one that follows the "way of the darkness". He seeks to enligten his progress in the "way of evil". To this end, he travels Japan, killing anyone he can. However, in his travels, he encounters an unknown female ninja who kills him.
[edit] Samurai Shodown 2
Gen-an, his soul having been toppled into the depths of hell, is revived by a being calling himself "leader of the Demon World" and given a proposition: "Become my servant, and be reborn." He takes him up on this offer, but Gen-an plots to one day slay his benefactor then rule the Demon World himself. His status is unknown after this point.
[edit] Trivia
- The unknown female ninja that defeated Gen-an may be Ayame, Earthquake and Galford's sensei. However, in her appearance in the first Samurai Shodown, the sprite used was that of Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury series. It must be noted that despite this appearance, and the same last names, Gen-an has no relation to Mai.
- Gen-an's claw name is "Azami", like his wife. He named his weapon as his wife as a homage to her.
- Gen-an secretely admires Haohmaru, having a special win where he reverences after the battle in SS2. Also, admires Ambrosia.
- Because sometimes appears with Earthquake (like in Genjuro's final in SS IV), they are sometimes compared to Chang and Choi.
- Gen-an's clan is composed of cannibals, and the large pot seen in his backgrounds is filled with the remains of victims. Strangely enough, one of the "victims" looks like a Xenomorph from the Aliens movies.
- Gen-an is the first bakemono in the series and one of the few ones, along with Kusaragedo. Also, both monsters are cannibals and have their weapons in their arms.
- In his ending in Samurai Shodown 2, appears Ryuhaku Todoh as a cameo. Those 2 endings (along with his SS1's) are joke endings and both are non-canon.
- Due to his green skin and possession of a Rolling Attack (his titled Slaughterhouse Tumble), and appearance at around the same time, he was widely thought of as a general ripoff of the character Blanka from the Street Fighter II series.
- In Samurai Shodown 2, Gen-an gained an attack where he would throw his claw out on a string where it would grab the opponent and pull them toward him. This brought comparisons to another fighting game character, Scorpion from the Mortal Kombat series.
