"Best of You" is the first single off the fifth album from the Foo Fighters, In Your Honor. It has been released on two main discs in 2005. A live version of the song was released on the EP, "Five Songs And A Cover", and as a B-Side to the double A-Side "No Way Back/Cold Day In The Sun" single. It was written by the Foo Fighters.
An acoustic live version of this song is available on both the 2006 CD and DVD Skin and Bones. It is performed solo by vocalist/guitarist Dave Grohl.
"Best of You" gave Foo Fighters their highest ever entry on Triple J's Hottest 100 at #4.
Its music video was directed by Mark Pellington, best known for his work on the video for "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam. He was inspired by the death of his wife a few months prior to the shoot, and was drawn to the song's notion of dealing with pain in life.[1]
The video features the band playing, intercut with random images of animals and people that seem to be suffering from sadness or pain dealt by others.
There have been many remakes of the video on MySpace, with some featuring live performances, CGI/animation, and parodies of the original video's plot line.
This song was featured on the MTV series Making the Video.
Prince covered the song during the halftime show at Super Bowl XLI in Miami, Florida, on February 4, 2007. Drummer Taylor Hawkins expressed surprise by the performance, due to Prince's prior criticism of the band's desire to release a cover version of his song, "Darling Nikki," in 2003.
