Betuweroute
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Betuweroute is a new freight railway being constructed from Rotterdam to Germany. It is named after the Betuwe area through which it passes.
Compared with the current rail route between Barendrecht and Elst the main deviations are:
- it passes on the north side of Zwijndrecht and Papendrecht
- it passes on the north side of Gorinchem and the south side of Leerdam
- it passes on the north side of Tiel
From the south side of Elst it goes straight to Zevenaar. The route is electrified with 25kVAC and secured with the ERTMS2 (European Rail Traffic Management System) security system.
