Beyond the Limit of Darkness and Light (Japanese: リミットぶっちぎり！ ～光と闇～ - Rimitto bucchigiri! ~Hikari to Yami~) is episode 79 of the anime series Naruto. The episode's storyline is from the Invasion of Konoha manga arc.

Naruto and Gamabunta have transformed into the shape of Kyūbi, which grants Gamabunta greater agility as well as the use of 9 prehensile tails. Gamabunta uses a few tails to grab a bunch of trees, and leaps toward Shukaku. Shukaku uses Compressed Air Jutsu to blast Gamabunta, who flings the trees at the giant airball. This leaves Gamabunta free to land next to Shukaku, and then uses his teeth and claws to grab hold of Shukaku. Naruto then jumps up and punches Gaara hard, waking him up.
Though Shukaku's spirit is gone, Gaara is still there, with a giant racoon of sand under him. Gaara tries to kill Naruto, who is protected by Gamabunta's tongue. However, that doesn't last long, as Gaara prepares Sand Coffin.
Meanwhile, back in Konoha, Guy and Kakashi (and the rest of the Leaf jonins) continue their fight against the combined forces of the Hidden Sand and Hidden Sound. The Third Hokage and Orochimaru are apparently at a stalemate, and Orochimaru brags that the Hidden Leaf will be destroyed.
Inside an emergency bunker, Konohamaru tries to fake out Iruka in order to see what's going on outside, but is stopped by Anko. She explains that they are following Konoha's emergency manual, and now that the civilians have been evacuated, the counterattack will begin.
Both Naruto and Gamabunta's chakra are nearly depleted, so neither can fight, and Gamabunta has to release Naruto from his tongue. Naruto asks for some chakra from Kyūbi, and gets enough to burst free from Sand Coffin, as well as unzip his jacket and undo his headband.
Konoha's ANBU attack a combined Sound/Sand platoon. Lord Hiashi Hyuga easily defeats 17 enemy ninjas. Ino-Shika-Cho ("old-school") shows its' strength as Inoichi Yamanaka, Shikaku Nara and Choza Akimichi (fathers of Ino, Shikamaru and Choji, respectively) use their combined skills to crush the enemy. Kiba's mother and sister (Tsume and Hana Inuzuka) attack, along with their ninja-dogs. Shino's father uses Kikai Bugs to neutralize the poison in his son's body.
The Third Hokage tells Orochimaru that Konoha's ninja will protect the village, and that true strength does not come from learning techniques.
Third Hokage: "I have taught you before...that when you protect something important to you...a ninja's true strength will manifest!"
Naruto lunges toward Gaara, trying to punch him, but Gaara uses his sand to restrain Naruto. Without the use of his arms or legs, Naruto headbutts Gaara, hard enough to crack the entire Tanuki form, which dissolves into sand.
Gamabunta wants to watch the end of the battle, but could not because he is out of chakra, so Gamakichi and Gamabunta leave. The sword, however, still remains, between Gaara and Naruto, who are on tree tops.
The Third Hokage is unable to fully extract Orochimaru's soul, so he does the only thing he can. He uses the Reaper Death Seal, the same technique the Fourth Hokage used to seal the Nine-Tailed Fox inside Naruto. As a result, Orochimaru loses the use of his arms.
Third Hokage: "I regret that we cannot die together, idiot apprentice. Let us meet in the other world." (Dub: "Your foolishness is unparalleled, Orochimaru. My one regret is that I cannot take you with me. Farewell, disciple. May we meet again in the next world.")
Orochimaru curses his former sensei, but it's too late.
As Gamabunta's sword de-summons itself, Gaara and Naruto launch toward each other, both trying to knock the other out with a punch. Naruto succeeds and they both land on the ground, unable to move.
Third Hokage (last lines): "Where the leaves dance, the fire burns. The shadow of the fire will flash over the village...and the leaves will grow once again." (Dub: When the tree leaves dance, one shall find flames. The fire's shadow will illuminate the village, and once again, tree leaves shall bud anew.)
The last thing the Third Hokage sees is a young Orochimaru, who was once his favorite pupil rather than the angry ninja he grew to be.
The Third Hokage dies with a smile on his face. The episode ends.

- The reason why Naruto was able to land a punch on Gaara when they tried to hit each other may be due to the fact that Gaara isn't as skilled in taijutsu.
- This may be because he had no need to learn taijutsu, since until now, he never had to rely on his hands or feet to do the work and was never in any threat.
- This episode marks the first time a Naruto American opening has been subtitled.
- We see Kankuro's face unpainted during Gaara's flashback about how his past is shattered.
- Konoha's Emergency Manual, to be used in case of an enemy attack, as explained by Anko Mitarashi and Iruka Umino.
- Stage One: Eliminate the enemy units.
- Stage Two: If the enemy units cannot be eliminated right away, the civilians must be evacuated.
- Stage Three: Counterattack. Eliminate the enemy units.
