I restructured this so that it is easier to identify what each paragraph is about. I left most of the content as it was (deleting the obvious non-NPOV sections), but this article definitely needs help (as do the other Breath of Fire articles, but this one in particular). --John Lynch 16:42, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Removed categories

May I ask why the categories for the release years were removed? 1994 was the Japanese release date, 1995 was the US release date, and 2002 was the US GBA release date (not sure about Japanese GBA release date.) Anyway, good job on cleaning up the article! Y0u (Y0ur talk page) (Y0ur contributions) 19:33, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

  • My bad. I added them back in. And thanks. --John Lynch 03:04, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 2 or II

The official name of this game is Breath of Fire II, not Breath of Fire 2. I think the page should probably be moved to the page with that title. ~ Oni Lukos (No, that's not my real name) c

[edit] Character links

I believe that the links should all end in (Breath of Fire character) except for ones that can't refer to anything else, which, in this case, is probably just Deathevan, which isn't really the name of the character (It's Evans...it's just his boss form is called "Deathevn"), but not (Breath of Fire 2 character). I don't know why they should be bolded either, but it's not that bad. ~ Oni Lukos c 00:53, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Other Characters

I just added a lot under the Other characters entry. I tthink it would be a good idea to move this entire section into the List of Breath of Fire II characters article instead. What do you guys think?

Please sign your comments. Also, how do you know all of these Japanese names...? There's no way 二ムフ could be "Nympho" or トルボ could be "Turbo"... I've actually PLAYED the Japanese game. I'm fairly certain those are their Japanese names, but I could be mistaken. I was playing rather quickly. ~ Oni Lukos ct 02:02, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Sorry about that. All the original Japanese names of the characters (even NPCS and towns people) were dispalyed at the ending of the game in the English version. Since Kata was used for the characters name, it is expected that the names for the characters arn't Japanese names but foreign or made up words. And the Japnese write foreign words accoring to how the words sound, not how they are spelled. Most of the names at the ending make alot more sense than the literal Kata-->Engrish translations done by the USA department. Also your example of 二ムフ would be literally translated as Nimufu or Nimuhu, since in Japanse, every syllable must end in a vowel, you can now see the awkwardness of wrting english words in Japanese eh? Also the Fu and Hu sound shares the same Kata in Japanese which is フ. Since the game actually translated the name as Nimufu, it is probabaly the closest when sounded out. Now taken in the consideration that all syllables need to end in a vowel (except for the n sound), most people tend to selectively leave out the u sound when translating directly from Kana to a foreign langauge (like クリスマス or literally Kurisumasu is Chritsmas, ヅルタ or literally deruta is Delta), so Nimufu is read as Nimfu which properly spelled is Nympho, you see where I'm going? Same as トルボ which is literally Torubo, since there is no way to properly write Turbo with Kata, but if we sound the word Turbo out, it's Torbo, so Torubo would be the Kata transaltion. Same as the name アルツハイマー which is Alzheimer. -- whipsandchains 02:33, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
You're under the misunderstanding that I don't know how katakana transliterations work. I've been working with them for years. I know it's been at least four...but it's probably been more than that. Anyway, 二ムフ, while literally transliterated as "nimufu" or "nimuhu", can be transliterated as Nymph also, but to be Nympho, it would have to be にムフョ(オ/ウ), and, last time I checked, that's not how the name is written. トルボ, also, could be "torubo", "trubo", "tolbo", and a bunch of other things, but I think it'd have to be トー(ル)ボ or トゥー(ル)ボ, or something like that, to be "turbo". There simply isn't enough emphasis on the first syllable. Granted, when I was playing through the game, I wasn't exactly looking at all of the names that were going by. In fact, I was specifically trying to get to "Nimufu" to find out her Japanese name. (Might I mention that アルツハイマー couldn't be "Aruhamel" because it has no ル at the end and the ツ would have to be discarded?) ~ Oni Lukos ct 12:58, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes those are very good points you have, and those would definitely be the way to write the words in kata from a native english speaker's point of view, however those subtle differences go unnoticed when pronouced by anyone who isn't a native speaker of English, not to mention that the game was made 10 years ago when English-->Kana wasn't as refined as it is today. Like I said, finish the game, take a gander at the ending (its present in the SuperNes version not sure about the GBA) when they list all the characters with their full names and you'll see that they wrote Nimufu's name as The Lonely Witch - Nympho Mani and that other witch who picks a bar fight with you as Over Drink. As for トルボ, yeah I think youre right, traditionally Turbo should be written as ターボ. I went through the cast list again one more time to make sure and the official transalation is actually Turvoe. And the アルツハイマー, his name is written as アルツハイマー, but for some reason in the English version it's written as "Aruhamel", but in the ending, he is listed as The Mindbreaker - Alzheimer. This one Im more convinced is an error in the translation, esp if it was by Ted "I've never met a name I didn't change" Woolsey.--whipsandchains 19:47, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Story section

I added in the tag for an overly long plot summary-- I really don't feel like the section needs to be this long, does it? I Jethrobot 07:27, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

No, it should be a summary, not a complete account of everything. Rarr 23:29, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
