Welcome to the WikiProject Video games on the English Wikipedia! We are a group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to video games.

Our goals are to:

  • provide guidelines and recommendations for articles that describe all aspects of video games;
  • improve Wikipedia's coverage of video games by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles; and
  • serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to video games on Wikipedia.

Contents

[edit] Article guidelines

For more details on this topic, see the CVG Article guidelines

In addition to the usual policies and guidelines, please make sure you understand the specific guidelines related to video game-related articles. Also make sure you are familiar with:

  1. The five pillars of Wikipedia — a quick rundown of the five key rules you need to start editing.
  2. Simplified ruleset — 16 rules of thumb to help you avoid problems.
  3. List of policies — a comprehensive list of the 42 official policies.
Templates

The CVG templates page lists all templates useful in writing articles about video games, including infobox, stub, talk page, and external links templates.

[edit] Project structure

Wikiprojects

WikiProjects connected with Video games:

[edit] Assessment

The Assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's video game related articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. This system will be used in the future to select official A-Class articles.

[edit] Collaboration of the week

Current GCOTW: Imagic.

Each week, a Gaming Collaboration of the week is voted on as a focus for the project's participants. Articles that qualify for the GCOTW include those that have yet to be created, stubs, and underdeveloped articles. Anyone can nominate articles for the GCOTW, so feel free to do so.

[edit] Essential articles

The Essential articles page lists the most important topics related to this WikiProject. The list could be used to select candidates for Wikipedia 1.0, or perhaps even to create a CVG WikiReader. It should also allow us to identify areas that need work. Feel free to fill in the table by rating the quality and importance of articles. If you disagree with a grade, or an important topic is missing, be bold and change it.

[edit] Magazine Archive

The CVG Magazine Archive is designed to help editors find sources for previews, development history, critical reviews, or other information in published material. The Magazines project especially aims to help editors with articles concerning games released before the full advent of the internet for game coverage. If you have relevant magazines or books, please contribute them to the archive.

[edit] Peer Review

There is a CVG Peer Review page that users can use to nominate articles for which they wish to get feedback from other contributors so that they may become featured articles. Please do not nominate stubs or underdeveloped articles, which are handled with the Gaming Collaboration of the week.

[edit] Task forces

Task forces are meant to provide centralized information and discussion for topics that have a sufficiently large scope, but would not benefit from having a separate WikiProject with all the associated bureaucracy that would involve. The current task forces are the Capcom task force, the Devil May Cry task force, the Konami task force, the Sega task force, the Tycoon Games task force, and the Video Games Images task force.
