Cameron Bruce (born October 1, 1979) is a professional Australian rules football player, currently playing for the Melbourne Demons. He is widely regarded as an absolute gun.
Cameron started his sporting career at an early age when he was recruited in the Central Coast 'Coasties' representative football team. He was captain of his team for 3 years before being asked to make the change from football to AFL. At this stage he played for MHSOB. This was until the age of 20 when he was selected to play in the Melbourne Demons Junior Development Squad. At the age of 21 and after one year in Melbourne's JDS he debuted in the seniors against Geelong to start off the 2000 season.
He is an electric midfielder who has a reputation as one of the finest in the AFL. He wears the number 32 jersey for the Demons, and enjoyed a stellar year in 2004. Injury hampered the end of his 2005 season, but he enjoyed some great form earlier in the year, notably against Collingwood. He has started the 2006 season in blistering form, helping Melbourne climb the ladder after a slow start. Some pundits have suggested that he is in "Brownlow form", and with a recent injury to favourite Chris Judd, this might not be too far off the mark. The Demons have cemented a top-four position at the mid-point of the season and many have earmarked this as the season when the many developing stars at Melbourne make the next step up and put the club into Premiership contention. Bruce has been hailed as the most versatile player in the league and has played in the midfield, attack and as a tagger to great effect in 2006.
He is known by fans of the Sydney Footy Show for doing "That's Gold" after scoring a goal against Collingwood in the traditional Queen's Birthday fixture in 2005. Bruce is often nicknamed "Cameron The Bruce".
