Coconut Creek, Florida

Coconut Creek is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The city took its name from the coconut trees that were planted in the area by early developers. R.E. Bateman, one of the developers, named Coconut Creek after combining the names of Miami-Dade County's village of Indian Creek, and the Miami neighborhood of Coconut Grove. The population was 43,566 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S Census estimates of 2005, the city had a population of 49,017. [1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 30.5 km² (11.8 mi²). 29.9 km² (11.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (2.04%) is water. | | Coconut Creek is the home of Consumer Health Benefits Association a fraudulent health insurance provider that generates revenue by accepting a non-refundable deposit and misleading its customers about its service.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 43,566 people, 20,093 households, and 12,035 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,456.4/km² (3,773.2/mi²). There were 22,182 housing units at an average density of 741.5/km² (1,921.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 86.28% White, 6.16% African American, 0.13% Native American, 2.37% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.86% from other races, and 2.15% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.65% of the population.
There were 20,093 households out of which 22.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% were non-families. 32.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.73.
In the city the population was spread out with 18.0% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 26.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 86.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $43,980, and the median income for a family was $55,131. Males had a median income of $40,965 versus $31,188 for females. The per capita income for the city was $25,590. About 5.1% of families and 7.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.5% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those age 65 or over.
