Compstall

Compstall is a small village within the Stockport Metropolitan Borough in England, between Marple Bridge and Romiley. It was formerly a mill village, built by George Andrew in the 1820's to house his 800 workers. Most of the original mill cottages and other structures remain unchanged.

The waterways were also constructed by Andrew to carry water from the weir, on the river, to turn the mill wheel, which stood where the car park is today. The water wheel was called "Big Lilly" and was the largest wheel in England at the time. It is where Etherow Country Park is situated and Compstall sees many thousands of visitors a year to the popular park.
