[edit] Sunderland
James started his career with Sunderland. James was signed by Hibernian from Sunderland on a years loan in August 2002.[2] James had to return to Sunderland from his loan at Hibernian because of a knee injury in April 2003.[3] James was signed by Darlington from Sunderland on a months loan in November 2003.[4] James stayed at Darlington for a second month.[5] James was signed by Port Vale on loan from Sunderland on a months loan in March 2004.[6]

In April 2004, James was signed by Port Vale on a two-year permament deal, as the previous loan deal was agreed before the transfer deadline, the deal could be made permament.[7] James was released by Port Vale in May 2006.[8]

James was signed by Darlington in 2006, following his release by Port Vale.[9] James was signed by York City from Darlington on loan for the rest of the 2006/07 season in March 2007.[10]
