Cy-Fair High School

Cy-Fair High School is a secondary school located in Cypress, which is an unincorporated place in Harris County, Texas, near Houston.
Cy-Fair is part of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District.
The mascot is the bobcat, and the school motto is "Bobcat Fight Never Dies", often abbreviated to "B.F.N.D.". The school colors are maroon and white.

In 1884, a one-room school was built, which was named Big Cypress School House, No. 2, Dist. 6. All grades attended this one-room school. Elementary and high school students were eventually provided with separate facilities, and Big Cypress School House was renamed Lamkin Elementary.
Cy-Fair High School was officially established on the same site in 1935. Three students comprised the graduating class. By 1937, the Cypress School consisted of seven rooms, a superintendent's office, and a library, and, later that year, a new wood-framed schoolhouse for high school students was constructed on the site where Lamkin Elementary now stands. The school was named Rural High School No. 5 and was very modern by the standards of the time. It included a music room and a full-sized gymnasium/auditorium, amenities most schools did not have during the time period.
1940 The Cypress schools and the Fairbanks schools were consolidated to form the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District.
On August 17, 1940, a bond issue in the amount of $200,000 was passed by a vote of 189-172. Superintendent Millsap and the newly-created school board - which included Cypress board members L. Z. Pledger, E. M. Neal, William Christen, and V. Hirsch; and Fairbanks board members E. S. Post, O. R. Hagler, and W. H. Ehlert - purchased 100 acres for $75 per acre from J. Lieder on September 30, 1940, and awarded a bid for the construction of a new brick high school on May 9, 1941. The High school students walked as a group to their new campus, which was featured in the Houston Chronicle as "one of the most modern-equipped and largest school buildings in Harris County," in the spring of 1942, and the first commencement ceremony was held on campus that same year. The new brick building was named Cypress-Fairbanks High School and still exists today as the centerpiece of the Cy-Fair High School complex (the name was officially shortened in 1960.). Cy-Fair High School remained the only High School in the Cy-Fair ISD until the opening of Jersey Village High School. This followed a series of high schools being built when the population of CFISD increased due to the expansion of Houston suburbs.
Throughout the years, the enrollment of students increased immensely. Today Cy-Fair High School is a "TEA Recognized" campus, receiving the Recognized School Award for student performance in 1997-98. The school has approximately 30 active student clubs, including Model United Nations, and Junior Achievement. Seventy percent of Cy-Fair High School graduates go on to college. In 2001, Cy-Fair ISD completed a $28 million total makeover of Cy-Fair High School providing students with a modern, state-of-the-art campus. The renovations include 20 additional classrooms, a new library and commons area, and new science and physical education wings, while preserving the historic character of the respected campus.

It recently (as of the 2005-2006 school year) surpassed Langham Creek High School for the position of most crowded high school in the district, with approximately 3,800 students. In fall 2006 Cypress Woods High School opened, relieving Cy-Fair HS.
