[edit] Thanks for the comment

Thank you for your concern. I agree that I have been a little too hyperactive on Wikipedia lately, but that's because I have a lot of free time on my hands off late. Probably by June or so I will get into a normal rhythm, & become a normal active user.

Cheers

[edit] Thank you!

Hello, Dlohcierekim/Archive 2, and thank you for vote on my recent RfA! With a final vote of 62/2/4, I have now been entrusted with the mop, bucket and keys. As I acclimate myself to my new tools, feel free to let me know how you believe I might be able to use them to help the project. Thanks again! RadioKirk talk to me 05:43, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Arte _mecco

You had the right idea, the article is a blantant copyvio. For this instead of using a {{copyvio}} tag, a {{db-copyvio}} would have been better. This is a tag for speedy deletion on grounds of a copyvio. Also inform the user with this template {{ subst:nothanks-sd|pg=Article |url=http://google.com }} (replace "Article" with the name of the article & http://google.com with the url where it has been copied from. If the user removes the template or places a {{hangon}} (warn him in the first case not to remove deletion notices), then you can nominate the article at AFD. Go to the above provided link & follow the three steps shown how to nominate an article for deletion. Either way the article has got to go. I guess you found out the article so you should get to do the "honours" ;).

Hope that clears it up

[edit] Love Song (AC/DC song)

I've deleted that article, even if it wasn't copyvio an article of some lyrics doesn't meet the standards for inclusion. I left the creator a generic test message on their talk. Thanks, — xaosflux Talk 04:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Raymond D. Mindlin un-tagged for speedy deletion

Mindlin is an award-winning scientist and therefore IMO quite notable. I've removed the speedy tag. Hope you don't mind. -- PFHLai 04:50, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

It was the newbie's first ever edit. Let's give him/her a break. :-) I've left a brief note on the author's usertalkpage, asking for specific stuffs for the article. Hope this helps. Cheers. -- PFHLai 04:58, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Starstreams

Thank you for alerting me about User:Starstreams. On Waveform records, I found nonsense like "...visited the UFO filled canyons of Sedona, Arizona, and mind melded with Musical Starstreams radio producer and host Forest ..." ??? That's silly. I've tagged it for a speedy.

The rest of the contributions from this user, I dunno. Not sure about notability of Musical Starstreams. An external link to its webpage is found on an earlier (March '06) version of Ambient music. So maybe it's well established in its field. If you are concerned, please free feel to add a {{prod}}.

No need to thank me. We are all doing our part in maintaining our Wiki. Good night, Dlohcierekim. Sweet dreams. -- PFHLai 05:37, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Changing vote

See an example of this vote change. Change:

Ha, saw the context in your contribs; I mean "Oppose". Yeah, the '#:' indents the message without disrupting the numbering. ~ PseudoSudo 16:50, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Slow down there old chap!

Hi,

I'd appreciate it if you gave me time to finish my articles before you mark them for quick deletion.

I can accept that you find the concepts non-notable, notability is to some extent a subjective matter.

Gary Burchell has done some interesting work in the area of Work/Life balance when applied to interpersonal relationships, you will note that I have started to explain the basic concepts[1], but I have not done a bio on Gary Burchell as I do not consider him to be notable, merely his work on relationships.

Regards,

Chris.

[edit] Speedy deletes on schools

Hi Dlohcierekim! You recently tagged (using VandalProof) a school article for speedy deletion.

The article qualified for speedy deletion under CSD-A1 Very short articles providing little or no context and/or CSD-A3 No content whatsoever. Any article consisting only of links elsewhere (including hyperlinks, category tags and "see also" sections), a rephrasing of the title, and/or attempts to correspond with the person or group named by its title.

The article did not qualify for speedy deletion as CSD-A7 Unremarkable people or groups/Vanity Pages. An article about a real person, group of people, band, or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject.

Unfortunately, CSD-A7 does not apply to schools. WP:AfD has set the precedent that all schools are notable.

Please only tag schools for deletion under one of the other speedy criteria. Thanks! ➨ ЯΞDVΞRS 22:31, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Guises of The Morrigan AfD

I was basing my assessment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Precedents#Literature. (These aren't meant to be policies on what's notable, but summaries of what's survived or fallen in AfD attempts in the past.) Given the number of websites that mirror Wikipedia, copying our material uncritically, I'd say that 193 google hits is tiny. This article has been on Wikipedia for almost exactly a year, so there's been lots of time for different sites to copy it over. See also Talk:The Guises of The Morrigan for the background to this AfD nomination. QuartierLatin1968 El bien mas preciado es la libertad 19:46, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unemployment Action Center

Hey. Thanks for prodding the article and deprodding it yourself, it looks like. Google is not everything. The non-profit org is real, it's been around for 20 years, it's underwritten by seven major law schools, and the article is short, but high quality. I am glad you allowed it to stay - there's really no reason to delete it, even though it may not have the largest number of google hits. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 03:42, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 88.196 vandal

Hi Dlohcierekim. No problem reverting the vandalism to your user page. Glad I could help. Regarding the vandal. I haven't seen this one before. Whois tells me its coming through RIPE Network Coordination Centre in Amsterdam who are (I think) a domain registrar. The last IP used to vandalize your page was assigned to Elion Enterprises Limited in Estonia. They have the IP range 88.196.24.0 - 88.196.25.255, so they are most likely a local ISP providing rotating IPs to users.

I'm guessing the only way to combat this would be to put an IP address range block on 88.196.24.0 - 88.196.25.255, which would catch a number of valid user accounts too, so admins are going to be reluctant to do it. I'm not entirely sure where the best place to report this is. You could indeed try going to the Admin noticeboard. I might try approaching an experienced admin directly first, though. Get their advice on the best way to proceed. They may be willing to put the block in place themselves or at least guide you to the right place to report it.

I hope this is of some help. Sorry you've been the victim of this vandal. By the way, I've seen your name popping up in a number of places like RfA and AfD. You're doing great work here on Wikipedia. Keep it up. All the best, Gwernol 14:57, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Glad the vandalism isn't bothering you. It seems to be an occupational hazard of vandal fighting, I'm afraid. I usually take these things to mean I've been effective against the vandals: if they resort to vandalizing my user page at least they aren't vandalizing a real Wikipedia article. If you're not looking to have the range blocked, then I think alerting the admins on the noticeboard is a good idea. Best, Gwernol 15:09, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User talk::172.214.7.180

Hi Dlohcierekim, you just missed me last night. I have had a look at the comments you made on the above talk page. Personally I don't think you overreacted, although I do think it's generally a bad idea to use the vandalism warning templates in relation to a comment made in any of the various talk/consensus gathering areas. The guy, or possibly gal, is one of those problem editors who appear to have some grasp of policy regarding vandals/trolls etc. and try to stick just to the right side of the rule (although, I agree, the first edit was vandalism). I've had trolls in the past who have tried to split hairs over exactly what our policies mean by vandalism, attacking, civility etc., the best thing you can do is not back down and try to explain that their edits, however they wish to define them, are totally inappropriate and will be dealt with. Don't let to trolls bully you or make you question yourself. Yours, Rje 12:01, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sweetcorn

Hi, You reverted an edit I'd made to the Sweetcorn page because you (presumably) weren't convinced it was used as a pizza topping - I assure you that in the UK at least it's quite common. C.f. the menus on [1], for example. Cheers, --JennyRad 14:47, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Alexa

You're going to feel silly when I tell you how easy it is. Go to www.alexa.com. Click on "Traffic Rankings". Type in the domain name. An entire domain gets added together, so if you type in "randomforumname.invisionfree.com" you get the total for invisionfree, which is a free forum hosting service, and has a very good rank of 346. Doesn't tell you anything about that forum. Fan1967 18:21, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:17, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tim Kevan

Hi, I notice you tagged this article for speedy deletion and then removed the tag as the subject has some claims to notability. Do you think it could be a candidate for deletion anyway? Wikipedia:Autobiography says that autobiographies are usually listed for deletion, but I can't find any mention of the fact at Wikipedia:Deletion_policy. I'm not sure whether an author of 9 books in a specialist field counts as notable or not, though it's telling that the article doesn't have any incoming links. I've not had anything to do with AFD so far so I wouldn't feel too confident about listing it myself, seeing as it could be a controversial issue. Thanks, Blisco 21:36, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyvios

When you list a copyvio, it's convenient to copy a bit of text found at the top of the copyvio template and paste it to the log (the bit that starts with an asterisk and ends with 4 tildes). You may also add a {{nothanks}} template to the poster's talk page (this would be User talk:Rossf18, not User talk:RossF18). Full inctructions are at WP:CP#Instructions.

I've listed Stetson University Law School. Conscious 04:51, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Blocking vandals

It depends on a lot of factors... since blocking is supposed to be preventative, rather than punitive, sometimes we'll leave them alone if they stop. If they have a history of taking it to the edge and stopping, we'll block them anyway. I try to take each one individually and, as far as I'm concerned, you're not wasting anyone's time. Keep up the good work! :) RadioKirk talk to me 15:15, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, use your judgment in each individual case. Also, don't be afraid to include details in your AIV report; it takes a few extra second to type something like, "previously blocked, vandalizing again" or whatever fits. If you catch someone vandalizing en masse, get 'em up on AIV as fast as you can. :) RadioKirk talk to me 22:05, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Community Justice

Hi, thanks for the note on my talk page. I've also had an uneasy feeling about Community Justice, but initially thought that I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and jumped in to see how things would develop when it started around a month ago. Originally, I understood the concept was some sort of complement to Esperanza, although I was hesitant that it would duplicate the same goals. As time passed, though, nothing much happened other than an election (which I didn't really feel was necessary), a newsletter (also unnecessary) and the creation of a few templates (mixed feelings).

After about a month without any significant contributions towards the encyclopedia as a whole, I dropped a note on the group's talk page intended to spark discussion on how they wished to form their goals. By that time, I had become rather skeptical of a need for CJ, but was hopeful that if the members would define their aspirations, they would either find a meaningful purpose for it, or decide that it was unnecessary and contribute elsewhere. Reaction to my suggestion was minimal, and I decided that I could make more productive contributions elsewhere; I explained my frustrations on my talk page to an inquiring editor if you'd care to read them.

For now, I intend to stay out of Community Justice until the point at which it can clearly define a unique, significant purpose that will meaningfully contribute to Wikipedia. Most of the users involved have their hearts in the right place; while I agree that it has been a largely unproductive timesink, I believe some of the comments voiced on the matter at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Computerjoe 3 have been vindictive rather than constructive... a failed attempt to promote a Wikipedia standard is nothing to get bent out of shape about. Really, your own comment sums up my feelings as well: "I'm not sure what more WP:CJ needs or intends to accomplish. I support the goal of promoting civility, but don't see WP:CJ as the means to that end."

Thanks for asking for my two cents. I'll watch for anything you'd care to add here on your talk page. Tijuana BrassE@ 16:51, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
