[edit] Napster Link
Matt ~ Thanks for the link to the Napster advert. Can you give me the link of where you found this and exactly how Napster is using this. Is this part of their affiliate program? I know they suggest linking to Napster from wiki sites, but I could not find the exact placement of this advert on their site or other reference to Wikipedia. I need that information to complete my investigation. Thanks. Alex756 14:49, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mirrors&Forks
I was just looking at the mirror&forks page, and noticed that you were an active participant at some point. WB seems to be taking a pernament wikibreak, and you seem inactive lately as well. Are you still interested in this project? It seems as if nobody here in WP actually cared about it. -- Jared A. Hunt 02:04, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. I wished people would care more about it. IMO, if we are so proud of our GFDL license, we should take care of it too. Big task indeed however. -- Jared A. Hunt 03:52, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SYN Cookies
I've rewritten from scratch the SYN cookies article that you marked as a copyright violation. I'm not a wikipedia regular, so some cleanup may be in order. The new article has been added to the SYN cookies temporary subpage as the instructions dictate. I'm not quite sure what the next step is. Tylerl 21:56, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Comment on derivation of the name Yungk
I am new to Wikipedia so please excuse this if I am hopelessly confused and misdirected. But I saw a question on Wikipedia as to the derivation of the name Yungk and your username appeared to be the person asking the question.
The person answering this said it is likely derived from the German or Swiss (or Austrian) Jungk. Robert Jungk, for example was a noted scientist and founded the Green Party in Austria.
However, it is not clear if Yungk in the US context is from Jungk. My father, Edwin Yungk, has done extensive research on this, and it appears the name Yungk in our branch of the family (which are Yungk's in New England) orginated shortly after the arrival of his grandfather - who came from Germany and it appears from ship records his name was Junge. He changed his name either at arrival, or sometime shortly thereafter arrival to Yungk. He arrived in the US around 1873.
There is a second line of persons in the US named Yungk, who do not appear to trace back to my great-grandfather. This family was based mostly in Minnesota. However, it is possible that the two lines were related in Germany(no one has done the research yet on that.)
To our family's knowledge, all the persons in the US named Yungk belong to one of these two lines with the exception that there are also now persons of Korean background whose name is also written Yungk.
Hope this is helpful. Larry Yungk (lyungk@comcast.net)
[edit] Lords Reform
Superm401, you did a redirect on Lords Refrom - Roles I presume this is to help, but I'm now a little lost. My worry is that it puts what is not a finished article by any means back in the limelight where it will only attrack more wanting to abort it.
I also noticed the talk, turned into a project (or was it before?)
The way it is panning at the moment is potentially three pages:
Lords reform - focussed primarily on the government's action after 1997 Lords reform - history focussed on reforms prior to 1997 Lords reform - public consultation and debate which will provide information on the many issues that came up in the debate, particularly discussion on roles, aims and proposals.
If you are turning it into a project as I first thought, I hope this helps. But to be honest, I'd love any feedback of any kind (on specifics). Mike 12:08, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

It's good to hear someone's still interested. As for me, my new job has left me with virtually no time for editing in Wikipedia. [edit] WP:ADOPT
Hi there,
As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.
A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.
Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.
Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.
Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 14:02, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] GFDL
I left a mess on the GFDL talk page; I'm traveling tomorrow, will have limited internet access, and don't have time to figure out where to put it - the site is highly commercial, claims copyright and all rights reserves, and uses extensive copies of Wiki content. I became aware of the site via e-mail spam. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:19, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note: I'm actually still here (leaving tomorrow). Your entry mentions something about no history sections (sorry, I don't speak the lingo): I know we have to determine who copied the content from whom, so dates are important. The strongest case I can make is on Stereotypic movement disorder, because I started that entry, and almost 100% of the content is my writing. I was spammed by them in e-mail, and was quite surprised to find my own writing with no GFDL indications, and all rights reserved. I found a section of their website indicating by month when content was added: for example, stereotypic movement disorder was added November 2006, mirroring what I wrote in February 2006. There is very little in the literature about stereotypic movement disorder: I give all the refs in the article, so you can see the sources, and there's little chance that content is anywhere else except a Wiki mirror. Having browsed more of the site now, it seems likely they took almost everything from Wiki mirrors, but no GFDL indication. I also know the Tourette syndrome literature (on the net and in print) inside and out, and can guarantee the text they used came from a Wikipedia mirror, and not another source - before I rewrote the article, there was no other source that had such bad writing about Tourette syndrome, which is why I instantly recognized it in the e-mail :-) Thanks so much for creating the entry for me, and let me know if I can do more when I return from my trip. Should I expand any of this info on the entry you created, or do the folks investigating only need brief examples? The spam e-mail I got came from the e-mail addressed listed on the website. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:12, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'm steamed about it - don't like the whole money-making scam aspect of it, or the way they targeted me in e-mail; they didn't use the version of the TS article written by me, but I did write Stereotypic movement disorder, and I don't want it looking like it was the other way around, drat! But, I can't be the one to send the letters: not going to jeopardize my internet anonymity. So, how can I help? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:55, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] GamerWiki
Many thanks for visiting GamerWiki and the information on including our own text of the GFDL. We do have a copy of the license locally at [2]. Does this page satisfy the requirement you mentioned? If so, do you think it needs to be more prominently linked from the Copyright information material? -- Tyagi 21:25, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. I'll ammend our footer template to refer directly to the local GFDL text. As a side note, GamerWiki is currently going through a Deletion Review on Wikipedia. -- Tyagi 05:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Drawing Board
Superm401, Thank you for using the Wikipedia Drawing Board. As to the following comment:
- Remember, discussing articles before creating them is optional. If you're ready, be bold and start the page!.
I believe that many of the new users that come to the Drawing Board probably know that they could start an article without discussing it first, but many would like to get feedback on the feasiblity of the article before diving in. I think the feedback that the occasional experienced editor gives on these article suggestions helps to make sure that the article is either started in the right direction, that the user is directed to an already existing article on the subject, or that the user is advised not to start the article for lack of notability of subject if its a person, group, or organization.
Many users are directed to the Drawing Board when they search for an article, don't find it, but follow the link to request it. There, users are directed to a sea of different article classifications in order to actually request the article, or "If you want to do more than just request an article and would like to discuss and plan its creation go to the drawing board." So, perhaps some of the users, as was I initially, might actually be looking to collaborate on the creation of the article, not just create it themselves.
I think it would be very nice if editors could welcome some of the new users requesting articles in this manner. Giving constructive feedback, and perhaps some direction, on the planning of these articles would greatly help new contributors. This would be much preferred to having created an article without feedback, and then getting it speedily deleted. - cgilbert 15:16, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your edit to Criticism of Windows Vista (diff)
Please clarify how correctly attributed sentence make a copyright violation? As result of your edit you have misattributed to CNET a statement they did not say (nothing about effectiveness - even basic tools can be good for entire industry as those will be installed on all PCs by default in contrast to feature rich AV/Firewalls that will be present only on few PCs people who has paid annual fees). I've followed Wikipedia:Copyright#Fair_use_materials_and_special_requirements and Wikipedia:Fair_use#Text. Can you clarify policy you have followed so I will not repeat mistakes like this in future? --TAG 10:10, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Answered at TAG:Talk#Criticism of Windows Vista. Thanks. I will try to pay more attention to punctuation then citing. --TAG 21:29, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help me!!!!
Okay, how do ya use navigation/popups tools? I tried this: User:Power level (Dragon Ball)/monobook.js. How the hell do I do this? Also, when I wanna try undo revisions, they won't work either. Vandalproof, I've tried using that too. So, can you help me understand these things? I wanna learn and utilise all of them yet I can't figure out how to use any of 'em. Please, I beg you... ... ... Power level (Dragon Ball) 16:40, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I am sooo lost again! This is really complicated. How do I even test if I have popups? Is there supposed to be a link that appears when I'm reverting an article or what? You're an admin., so is there anything else that should be edited here: User:Power level (Dragon Ball)/monobook.js? can you revert and stuff for me cause I know I will just mess it up again. Power level (Dragon Ball) 19:03, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think I'm gonna give up on this popups stuff. It's too, too complicated. I think I'm unable to understand how to even know when it works. Power level (Dragon Ball) 20:45, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalproof
Are you familiar with Vandalproof? It's the last thing I wanted to know how to use. For one of the special reverts, the Rollback Feature (e.g., Reverted edits by (X) to last verision by (Y) seems to be only available to administrators. So, how do I utilse login to vandalproof. For more info., please click on this to see the talk page to know what I'm talkin about. Thanks, hopefully this is the last thing I need to know. [edit] Erroneous Warning Video card
Fellow VP user... You recently issued a warning to me for a revert I performed on the Video card article. If you take another look at what I did I think you will see that you were in error. Don't feel bad... I've issued bad warnings myself a few times. Would you be so kind as to come to my talk page and remove the warning. (It would be in poor taste for me to remove it myself) Thanks. - Big Brother 1984 16:07, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nominations of images from the French military
I don't quite see why you nominated for deletion those images from the French military — I mean, the practical purposes of it. If you are interested in their licensing status, change them to "fair use" as promotional photos, for that's what they are in practice.
If we were to restrict our supply of military photos to "free" ones, we'd have to solely stick to the Pentagon's supply, which would jeopardize our neutrality, which is, in my humble opinion, far more important than our crazy licensing requirements. David.Monniaux 16:20, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Ah ah ah! You think that somebody at the French Navy really thought about a licensing policy? :-) David.Monniaux 03:51, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Update from Kenny
Awhile ago you said I should improve the layout of my article Ultimate footmen's first draft. Erm, what exactly did you have in mind? I read yer message and I understand. Although, it IS fact that Ultimate Footmen is the 2nd most widely-played map of the map class behind FOotmen Frenzy (though it is in major decline). I appreciate the help and I'll start fixing the article soon.
[edit] Work on OpenVZ
Thank you very much for taking your time to clean up the OpenVZ article. I will yet have to check it in details, but overall it looks good. As for the deleted "usage scenarios" section -- indeed it's better suited for either Virtualization or Operating system-level virtualization, and I might add it there. Again, thanks! --K001 22:45, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "Weasel words" tag on OpenSolaris
I'd like to volunteer to fix the weasel words in the OpenSolaris article, but I have no idea where they are. I looked at the opening summary, for example, and it looked to be WW-free. Wouldn't it be more useful to remove this tag from the top of the article and add it to any section that has a problem? Alternatively, could you list examples on the article's talk page?--NapoliRoma 22:18, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question about Category:Images with unknown source creation link
Hello. Over a year ago, you added a preload link to Category:Images with unknown source that facilitates the creation of new subcategories (see diff). I understand how to create these links, but I'm wondering why you also included autosummary, autominor, and autoclick parameters in the link. They don't seem to do anything. Do you have any idea why you included them? --- RockMFR 00:54, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm specifically referring to the autosummary/autominor/autoclick parts of the link. When I click the link, the preload bit works, but there is no automatic summary or any of that — the behavior of the link is the same whether or not the autosummary/autominor/autoclick parameters are present. And yeah, I've got javascript enabled. --- RockMFR 01:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
