The highway systems in the United States are very important for travel. We wouldn't have any Interstate highways if it weren't for the Pennsylvania Turnpike, similar toll roads (New Jersey Turnpike, New York State Thruway, etc.), and Dwight D. Eisenhower. This is a page for all my work done for pages for U.S. Roads. Requests and all that other junk related to this is directed through the corresponding talk page.
[edit] To-do lists
These are to-do lists for various road WikiProjects that I am in.
[edit]
Pennsylvania
[edit]
Missouri
- Fix broken infoboxes on articles.
- Make the infobox look like Infobox road used on other sibling WikiProjects.
- Begin to implement a browse system like Pennsylvania's
[edit]
Indiana
- Get basic project setup:
- Add infoboxes to all articles.
- Add the stub template to the article if necessary.
- Best-practice article at Indiana State Road 2.
- Get more members.
[edit]
New Jersey
- Infoboxes have been added for all current state routes.
- To-do list added to project page for a "final run-through".
[edit]
Rhode Island
- Format all articles to meet project standards.
[edit]
Massachusetts
- Clean up all articles to meet project standards.
[edit]
South Carolina
[edit]
California
- Around 170 infoboxes are broken from AWB conversion; list is here.
- Fix any broken Interstate infoboxes, as the new shield naming convention has taken effect. Good-practice articles at any X80 routes (articles like Interstate 280 (California))
[edit]
Maryland
[edit]
Interstates
- Make sure routebox is for intrastate Interstates and Infobox Interstate elsewhere.
- Add state-specific shields to Interstates in states where the non-neutered shield is used. See Image:Map of State Interstate shields.svg to determine usage.
- Update all exit lists to comply with the exit list guide.
- Make sure shields in routeboxes and exit lists are 25x20px size. Also make sure there aren't too many junctions in the routebox (limit 10).
- See User:Vishwin60/Roads for the status of the 2di Interstates.
[edit]
U.S. Routes
Change routeboxes from routeboxus to . Done, 04:29, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
- Cleanup all articles to meet the new standards below.
- Get more members.
[edit]
Shields
- All shields should be moved from Wikipedia to the Commons so that the shields can be better organized.
[edit]
Maps Task Force
- There is a backlist of maps requested.
[edit] Route Status lists
I'll create one for Missouri, Indiana, and Wyoming (once project and pages are started). I am now starting the Interstate status page.
[edit] Interstates
[edit] Auxiliary routes
Coming soon.

[edit] My featured road template

This is the basic syntax you need to get a complete routebox on the article page, just place this before any other text and fill in the variables. Copy and paste the following code from the box, not the source.

For the above parameters here's what you should fill in:
- state: This is the state the Interstate is in (ex. NY)
- article_route: This is the number of the Interstate the article is about (ex. 88)
- route_type: Main (2di) or Auxiliary (3di)
- map: Name of map over at Wikimedia Commons
- length_mi: This is the length of the route in miles. If you specify beyond integers (i.e. add a decimal value) you will need to set the following parameter, length_round
- length_round: If your value for length_mi is a whole number, you can omit this. Otherwise it needs to be set to the decimal precision of the length_mi parameter.
- length_ref: To do what a good article writer should, provide your reference for the length of the route using standard
- length_notes: For any notes regarding the length.
- year_established: This is the date the route was commissioned, assigned to its current alignment, or completed
- city: For beltways only - Name of the city that the Interstate is in
- direction_a: This should be either south or west to keep in accordance with the U.S. Roads parent project, which lists termini and junctions in progression travelling from West to East and South to North.
- terminus_a: This is where the route begins and is either at the southern terminus or western terminus.
- junction: See WP:IH for directions regarding this parameter.
- direction_b: The opposite of direction_a
- terminus_b: Where the route ends, in accordance with the guidelines set forth with starting_terminus
- browse: For intrastate Interstates only - Browse lines can be added here using the lines above it, and for additional ones, XX browse templates can be used. See WP:IH for a full explanation regarding these templates.
- shield_ext: For intrastate Interstates only - Name of the state the Interstate is in
Any tags that do not apply to a particular route can either be omitted or left blank.
By completing the infobox as follows, you'll get a routebox like the one to the right.

This template is liable to change; please return to this page if your route should in the future look 'broken'. See the "In Practice Examples" subsection for working examples, as well.
If you change the template, please either fix broken routeboxes on each article or post a note on the talk page so that we know we need to fix stuff. Thanks!
You can use when writing the termini or junction lists to speed things up. See WP:IH for complete instructions regarding the the quick template.
For more help, please visit WP:IH or post a note on WT:IH.
[edit] shield_ext conditions
This is great, because it allows shields with state names to be displayed. Certain conditions must be met, however:
- There may be more than one of them (For instance, both I-88's do meet these first 2 requirements.)
- Image:I-# (XX).svg, where XX is the two-letter abbreviation of the state, must exist. (See Commons:Interstate shields for info on making them for those that do not exist.)
- The state should use these signs.
If it meets all of these requirements, simply set shield_ext=XX, where XX is the two-letter abbreviation of the state.
Note that this is not yet working, since not all of those that have it set meet requirements #2 or #3 yet.
California Interstates do not have to specify shield_ext, since the state name shield option is ON be default.
States that do not use the state name on their signs are not obligated nor forced to use "shield_ext" per condition 4.
