A facsimile is any copy or reproduction, which bears a close resemblance to the original. The word is mainly used in the context of fax telecommunications technology.
A "Facsimile Edition" in publishing is a new edition of an (often classic) book, in the form of an exact reproduction of the original edition, including the typeface and layout of the pages.
