Farsley Celtic A.F.C. are an English football club based in Farsley, an area in the city of Leeds, currently playing in the Conference North.
[edit] History
Farsley Celtic was formed in 1908 by a group of local village lads. In their infancy the club played in local leagues and Hospital Cups. In the 1920s the club moved to a more permanent ground at Red Lane, opposite Farsley Celtic Cricket Club. After the Second World War the club purchased their current ground from the local council, where they played their first match in 1948 against Frickley Athletic.
The club entered the Yorkshire League in the 1950s, where they stayed for over 20 years, winning the championship twice in 1960 and 1969. In 1982 the Yorkshire and Midland Leagues merged to form the Northern Counties East League. Celtic started in the First Division but it was not long before they secured promotion to the Premier Division in 1985. In 1987 they finished second in the championship and were thus invited to join the newly formed First Division of the Northern Premier League as founder members.
In May 2006 they won promotion to the Conference North after defeating North Ferriby United 2-1 after extra time in the Northern Premier League play off final.
Their best FA Cup performance (before this season) was in 1974 when they reached the First Round proper. This game saw them play Tranmere Rovers at Elland Road before a crowd of 11,000. Farsley have reached the first round proper again this season after beating Cambridge City 2-1 in the 4th Qualifying Round. They were drawn against Milton Keynes Dons and held them to a 0-0 draw, before being defeated 2-0 in a replay at the National Hockey Stadium.
