- First, something that's annoying me lately: Maybe I'm spoiled from working with version control systems, and even implementing them, but why the fuck doesn't anyone use edit summaries? I mean, shit, even one-word things like "whitespace" are helpful. Mind you, with a user community like Wikipedia, you can't trust them, but it can be an easy way to at least tell what someone was aiming for when they made a certain change. Yarrrrgh! STOP IT!
My name is Juli Mallett. I am a reluctant Science Fiction fan, with a moderate preference for steampunk and similar settings. In the realm of SciFi, I tend to favor Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Stargate SG-1 and Firefly, with a lingering childhood preference for Star Trek. I once was an avid reader, and still try to be from time to time, with a particular fondness for Kurt Vonnegut and related Cold War-era American humorists.
[edit] Honors
[edit] Jobbage
On the professional front, I am interested in information systems, networking, operating systems, compilers and programming languages. I have worked as a release engineer, development engineer, technical advisor and as a generalized member of technical staff.
[edit] Interests
I have a particular, growing fondness for the language Haskell, am a heavy LiveJournal user, and have a strong fondness for all things music. Some of my favorite musicians/bands include Deacon Blue, The KLF, The JAMs, China Crisis, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Morrissey, New Order, Jill Sobule, Cocteau Twins, Thomas Dolby, Prefab Sprout, Roxy Music, They Might Be Giants and Xymox.
[edit] Education
I am also a High School dropout. Please, show me in some way that that biases you against me, I will be glad to chew off your ear.
[edit] Where I've lived
Before San Francisco I lived in Honolulu, on the Hawaiiain island of Oʻahu. In many ways I consider it my adopted home, but also have a particular affinity for the island of Molokaʻi. Before Honolulu, I was in Shawnee, Kansas, and before that, Apex, North Carolina. Before that, I was in Durham, North Carolina, and way back, I was in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and was born in Washington, Pennsylvania. I am currently in the process of moving to Seattle, Washington.

[edit] Pages I really hate and want to either ignore forever or clean the fuck up
- Distributed computing. Sorry, but no, the web does not tie together the world's distributed computing these days. Only distributed.net and Seti@HOME fanboys think this way. Building broad-based projects makes sense this way, building distributed systems does not.
- More boxen. Deleted!
