William Henry Hudson

William Henry Hudson est un ornithologue, un naturaliste et un écrivain argentin d’origine britannique, né le 4 août 1841 et mort le 18 août 1922.
Il naît aux États-Unis d'Amérique mais ses parents, Daniel Hudson et Catherine née Kemble, vivent en Argentine. Passionné dès son jeune âge par l’étude des plantes et des animaux. Il s’installe en Grande-Bretagne en 1869. Il commence à faire paraître une série d’étude ornithologique dont Argentine Ornithology (1888-1899) et British Birds (1895). Mais ce qui le rend vraiment célèbre sont ses livres sur la campagne anglaise dont Hampshire Days (1903) et Afoot in England (1909), des ouvrages qui contribuent à l’émergence du mouvement de retour à la nature des années 1920 et 1930. Son œuvre la plus célèbre est son roman exotique Green Mansions (1904).
Il est l’un des membres fondateurs de la Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
