Kenneth Robert Wilson (born 28 September 1970 in Framingham, Massachusetts, United States) is a drummer who is primarily known for playing drums for Marilyn Manson, although he also did brief stints playing with Paul Anka and Barry Manilow. He is only known by his stage name, Ginger Fish. His pseudonym originates from the combination of the names of Ginger Rogers, a dancer, and Albert Fish, a convicted murderer.
Having played drums since he was in second grade, Wilson eventually went to the University of Las Vegas to study music; durring that time he played with several underground bands from the area. He learned the drums off of the first album, Portrait of an American Family, out of a desire to join the band; in early 1995 he auditioned for the spot. Fortunately for him, he chose exactly the right time to do it as the rest of the band had already agreed to replace their current drummer at the earliest opportunity. Despite constant band member changes, Ginger is only the second drummer for the band, not counting a previously used drum machine; his playing can be heard on Smells Like Children and every subsequent Manson album. On the Guns, God and Government tour (2001), he broke his hand and collar bone while the band was destroying the stage at the end of a concert. However, he still played with one hand for the rest of the tour. He was temporarily replaced by Chris Vrenna for a whole year when in 2004 during the Viva Comet Awards a head injury left him unable to tour; however, he remains a member of Marilyn Manson. He is still a full-time member of Marilyn Manson after he appeared in the Tonight Show with the rest of the band. It is currently not known if he will be contributing to their next album, as Manson has said that he has not decided whether Ginger or Vrenna would be on the next album, live or recorded.
[edit] Trivia
- He once dated actress Alyson Hannigan.
- Manson has described Ginger Fish as the "quietest, but most dangerous" member of the band. He has also said that Ginger's addition helped them gain acceptance from a wider audience.
- He is left handed but rumored to be ambidextrous; despite his left-handed preference, his drumkit is set up right-handed. He's also rumored to have two collar bones in one place.
- Some of his favorite bands are Black Sabbath, Rush, and Led Zeppelin.
