Glameow (ニャルマー, Nyarumā^?, Nyarmar in original Japanese language versions) is one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar^[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Glameow is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Glameow in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.^[2]

It was revealed on the same day as Happiny, but it wasn't named until September 5, 2006. Its English name Glameow was confirmed at the 2007 American International Toy Fair in New York City.^[3]

Its name is derived from either glare or more likely glamour, due to its posh attitude, and meow. The Japanese name Nyarmar is derived in part from the Japanese onomatopoeia for a cat's cry (にゃ, nya^?).

Glameow is a grey cat, with a curled, spring-shaped tail and a white fluff at the tip of it. It has a crescent shaped head with two ears, the tips of which are white. It also has a small black nose, yellow eyes with blue irises, and white paws. Three out of every four Glameow are female.^[4]; however, it bears a slight resemblance to the male Tom in the cartoon Tom and Jerry.

Glameow is one of many Pokémon to have made its first appearance with the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS. It is possible that Glameow is the Diamond and Pearl equivalent of Meowth and Skitty, which have similar attacks. Both Glameow and its evolved form, Bunyat, are exclusive to Pearl, but are used by many of the members of the antagonists, Team Galactic, similarly to how Poochyena and Mightyena were used by Teams Aqua and Magma in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Glameow is seen in the first episode of Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl, it is owned by Dawn's mother, Ayako, who was once a great Pokémon Contest coordinator who used her Glameow to win the grand festival.

A Glameow is also owned by Dawn's contest rival, Nozomi. She often uses it in contests, most likely because she idolizes Ayako.
