Harleysville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 8,795 at the 2000 census. It belongs to the Lower Salford Township. Harleysville was settled by Pennsylvania Dutch in the 1700's.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 8,795 people, 3,129 households, and 2,381 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 814.3/km² (2,111.6/mi²). There were 3,196 housing units at an average density of 295.9/km² (767.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.89% White, 2.62% African American, 0.06% Native American, 2.24% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.81% of the population.
There were 3,129 households out of which 41.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.6% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.9% were non-families. 19.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.21.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 28.7% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 34.7% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $66,897, and the median income for a family was $75,105. Males had a median income of $49,961 versus $33,185 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $26,572. About 1.9% of families and 3.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 8.3% of those age 65 or over.

Harleysville was settled early in Pennsylvania’s history (circa 1700).
Harleysville is home to an annual Heckler Fest held at the historical Heckler Plains, one of the oldest properties in the area.
It is also home to the Mennonite Heritage Center due to the area's Mennonite (similar to their northern neighbors, the Amish) influence.

Four companies comprise what is locally known as the "Harleysville Four", the largest businesses in town.

Harleysville is home to two banks and a major insurance firm, a fact that has recently attracted investors to the town.
Merck & Co., Inc.'s West Point Campus in nearby North Wales employs a sizeable percentage of Harleysville's population.

Local news for the Harleysville area is covered by the Souderton Independent. The North Penn Reporter and the Souderton Arrowhead (Souderton Area High School's student newspaper) are also sources of community information.
