Herbert Fields

Herbert Fields (Born July 26, 1897 in New York City, Died March 24, 1958) was an American librettist and screenwriter. He was the son of Lew Fields and brother of Dorothy Fields and Joseph Fields.

Fields started his career as a stage actor. After acting, he went through the careers of choreographer and stage director until finally hitting on writing. From 1925 till his death, he contributed to the librettos of many Broadway Musicals. He wrote for most of the Rodgers and Hart musicals of the 30's and later collaborated with his sister, Dorothy, on several musicals, including Annie Get Your Gun. He won a Tony Award in 1959 for his work on the musical Redhead.
