Hidden Leaf's Legend, Onbaa Really Did Exist!! (Japanese: 木ノ葉隠れの伝説 オンバアは実在した!!, - Konohagakure no Densetsu, Onbaa wa jitsuzai shita!!) is episode 185 of the anime series Naruto.

Deep in the forest, something is growling. A bird of prey grabs something from a nest, and a shadowy creature roars.

Naruto, also in the woods, is training with kunai. He accidentally almost hits the bird, which drops its furry catch next to Naruto, who thinks the bird has crapped on him and runs to take a shower. However, the furry thing is revealed to have latched onto Naruto's back and is carried back to Konoha with him.

Back in the village, Kiba and Akamaru claim that Naruto stinks. Sakura sees a rip in Naruto's uniform and offers to fix it, which sends Naruto into delight at the idea of her doing something so intimate and motherly for him. Unfortunately, at just that time a furry hand reaches out from under Naruto's armpit and grabs Sakura's breast! In a rage, she kicks Naruto, but before she can deliver another blow, everyone realizes that there is a third hand sticking out of Naruto's side, which is revealed to belong to a tiny furry creature that looks half-monkey, half bear. (Sakura seems to have noticed this just in time, as she was holding Senbon in her fist.) Naruto calls it a "massive sized crap." Kiba attempts to remove it from Naruto's back, but it latches on and screams Onbu (japanese for "carry me!")

In Tsunade's office, she explains the legend of Onbaa from her youth. In a flashback, the three Sannin argue over going to search for a legendary creature called Onbaa. Jiraiya is the only one that really wants to go, calling the decidedly uninterested Tsunade flat-chested. Ever the lousy gambler, Tsunade bets that Jiraiya will fail. Orochimaru, distracted, says that he will bet on Jiraiya.

As recounted by Tsunade, Jiraiya returns after three days claiming to have found the Onbaa, but Tsunade thought it was a lie at the time. However, Jiraiya's crudely drawn notes seem to be quite accurate: the baby Onbaa clings to back of whatever it believes to be it parent, which is exactly the predicament Naruto is stuck with.

Naruto sets off down the street, with Kiba and Sakura at a Sade distance. On the way, Lee thinks that Naruto is training and runs past Naruto with a huge rock on his back yelling that he won't lose to Naruto. Hinata follows Naruto saying she heard a rumor that he had a kid (which seems to leave her jealous and heartbroken) and collapses in shock when she sees the animal on his back.

At home, the Onbaa pees all over Naruto's back, forcing him to bathe. At the ramen shop, Naruto discovers that the creature loves to eat naruto (the food not the person) and names it after the word it keeps saying: Onbu.

As time goes on, the Onbaa grows at a fearsome rate, still attached to Naruto, horrifying everyone. To get rid of him, Tsunade sends Naruto out on a mission. Before long, Onbu is gigantic, taller than Naruto himself but still clinging to his back.

Naruto arrives at an unnamed fortress, ready for battle and announcing himself as Naruto, the one who carries Onbu on his back. As the men from the fortress attack, Naruto uses kage bun shin, and all the clones that appear also have Onbu on their backs. When the men destroy some of the cloned Onbu, Naruto goes into a rage and defeats most of the men. Onbu actually blocks the blow from the final man.

Leaving the battle, Naruto tells Onbu that they make a great team and it will be the Naruto/Onbu team from now on just like the Kiba/Akamaru team. Unfortunately, it is at this point that the shadowy creature from the start shows up: Onbu's angry mother. The adult Onbaa punches Onbu right off of Naruto and while he's crawling back up a cliff side, her cries turn Onbu into a white angry beast like herself. The two Onbaa then attack Naruto who tries to remind Onbu of their past connection. Seeing the swirl on Naruto's back and remembering the Naruto from the ramen, Onbu remembers and blocks the final blow from its mother, saving Naruto. Naruto briefly awakes being carried on the back of the Onbu and then falls back asleep. When he next wakes, he is back in Konoha and the two Onbaa are walking back into the distance.

Back in Tsunade's office, Naruto finds that the Onbaa are no longer a legend: most of the villagers have them attached to their backs and are demanding to know how to get them off. Naruto just laughs and says that he has no idea.
