Hirakud is a town and a notified area committee in Sambalpur District in the Indian state of Orissa. It is famous for the Hirakud Dam built over the Mahanadi River. Hirakud is also an Industrial township with number of Industries. Located 15 km from the nearest city of Sambalpur, it is a quiet town with a large portion of the population engaged in various Industries located here.
