Hurst is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 36,273 at the 2000 census. Hurst is part of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District (HEBISD). It was found by William Letchworth Hurst

Hurst is located at 32°50′8″N, 97°10′49″W (32.835629, -97.180172)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.6 km² (9.9 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 36,273 people, 14,076 households, and 10,261 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,414.7/km² (3,662.6/mi²). There were 14,729 housing units at an average density of 574.4/km² (1,487.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 85.98% White, 4.13% African American, 0.64% Native American, 1.83% Asian, 0.29% Pacific Islander, 5.20% from other races, and 1.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.02% of the population.

There were 14,076 households out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.1% were non-families. 22.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the city the population was spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $50,369, and the median income for a family was $57,955. Males had a median income of $40,734 versus $29,551 for females. The per capita income for the city was $23,247. About 4.5% of families and 6.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.4% of those under age 18 and 3.7% of those age 65 or over.

Hurst is home to Lawrence D. Bell High School. It opened in 1957 on a site donated to the school district by the late Larry Bell, Founder and President of Bell Helicopter Textron in Hurst. Rapid student growth and academic excellence have been the cornerstone of Bell High School for forty years. L. D. Bell has earned state and national recognition in academics, athletics, fine arts, and leadership fields. Those numerous honors culminated in the recognition of Bell as a National Blue Ribbon School for 1994-96. The most recent successes for the school include four years running state champions in gymnastics, as well as a band state championships in 2000 and 2004.

Smaller portions of Hurst attend Birdville ISD and an even smaller number attend Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.

Business Tycoon and Multi-Millionare Willie Leiss, whose companies Station Nation, That Ice Cream Place, and Palio's Pizza Cafe are each multi-million dollar companies.

Lawyer Edgar Vazquez whose law firm Vazquez & Sons, Attorneys at Law are spread state-wide, with its headquarters in Bedford, Texas. Vazquez also has a hand sculpted statue of him and his sister, Lilliana, near the Hurst City Hall.
