Interstate 795 (abbreviated I-795) is a nine-mile freeway linking Baltimore's northwestern suburbs of Pikesville, Owings Mills and Reisterstown, Maryland to the Baltimore Beltway (Interstate 695).
I-795 is also known as the Northwest Expressway. It is a tertiary spur of I-95; it connects to I-695 but not directly to I-95.

[edit] History
The Northwest Expressway was one of the first freeways planned for construction in the state of Maryland. The first four mile section was completed in 1985; the remaining five miles were completed in 1987.
The original plan was for the highway to run into the City of Baltimore along a similar route to that of the Metro Subway. Plans to extend the highway beyond its current configuration have not been sought out by highway officials in Maryland. This alignment would most likely have terminated at Wabash Avenue, which parallels the elevated section of the Metro Subway.
[edit] Notes
- Currently it is the only highway in the United States designated as Interstate 795. While there have been several proposed highways to be signed with the designation, none have received the designation (a proposed highway in Florida has been tentatively selected to receive the designation).
- I-795 holds the distinction, along with Interstate 495 (Long Island Expressway) in New York, of being one of the only two tertiary Interstate spurs from Interstate 95 (i.e., spur routes that do not intersect with their parent routes). Although I-795 doesn't cross I-95, it is associated with it through I-695.
- A short connector route, called MD 795, provides access to MD 30 (Hanover Pike), which goes through the towns of Hampstead, Maryland and Manchester, Maryland to the state line with Pennsylvania where the road continues to Hanover, Pennsylvania as PA 94.
