Irving Karchmar

Irving Karchmar has been a writer, editor and publisher for many years, and a darvish of the Nimatullahi Sufi Order since 1992. He has an M.A. in Philosophy from DePaul University in Chicago, and has worked on such varied magazines as Hustler and the American Bar Association (ABA) Human Rights magazine. Between 1977 and 1985, he published Fantastic Films magazine. In 1986, Karchmar was on the staff that won the Trade Magazine Press Editors Award for work on the ABA’s Barrister magazine. In the same year, he published his first book, It Was Mostly You, a collection of poetry.
He is also writes the popular blog Darvish, and is the author of the Master of the Jinn: A Sufi Novel, a mystical adventure tale on the Sufi path of Love. The book has been translated and published in Russia, and will later this year be translated and published in Indonesia, into Indonesian. It will also be translated and published in Turkey in Spring, 2007 and in Malayalam, the language of the Kerala state of India in Summer, 2007.
