Questo album fu l'ultimo ad essere inciso dai Ramones con la Sire Records.Da Mondo Bizarro il gruppo ha cambiato con la Radioactive Records.
Il singolo Pet Sematary è stato scritto per l'omonimo film di Stephen King.Il singolo è stato uno dei più grandi successi radiofonici dei Ramones.Per questo è stata una delle canzoni cantate nel loro concerto nel 1990.
Dee Dee Ramone ha scritto una parte della sua autobiografia(Lobotomy: Surviving the Ramones)riguardante questo periodo e questo album:

It was tough recording the Brain Drain album because everyone took their shit out on me. I dreaded being around them. It drove me away--I didn't even end up playing on the album. Everybody in the band had problems; girlfriend problems, money problems, mental problems.

In quel tempo ogni componente della band aveva problemi mentali,di donne o di soldi.

L'album è stato 122° nella classifica The Billboard 200 dedicata agli album migliori del 1989. Pet Sematary invece è stata classificata, sempre da Billboard, la quarta canzone più bella dello stesso anno.
