John G. Vlazny

The Most Reverend John G. Vlazny, born February 22, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. He received his education at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein, Illinois and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958.
In 1960, he attended the North American College, earning Sacred Theology Bachelor degree and was also enrolled at Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy, and earned a degree a Sacred Theology Licentiate degree in 1962. While in Rome on December 20, 1961, he was ordained a priest at St. Peter's Basilica.
In 1967, he attended the University of Michigan and earned a Master of Arts degree.
In 1972, he attended Loyola University and earned a Master of Education degree.
On December 13, 1983, Pope John Paul II, ordained him an Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago at Holy Name Cathedral.
On October 28, 1997, he was appointed the tenth Archbishop of Portland in Oregon.
