[edit] License tagging for Image:Ross Rifle bayonet p1907 antique preview.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Ross Rifle bayonet p1907 antique preview.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:05, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your contributions to Ross rifle
In reply to your queries about your contributions. My biggest concern is that it is written in 1st person and is not referenced. You are a long way from vandalism. A contribution should only be reverted for vandalism if it is obvious (ie "The Ross rifle was used by douche bags"). My suggestion would be to have a read through the Manual of Style and a few of the documents I have referred you to above (no that wasn't a bot edit, I actually checked your edits and simply use a template I created). If you have any questions just leave a comment on my talk page. Happy editing! MyNameIsNotBob 11:20, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've moved the bayonet text to Ross rifle/temp where it can be edited and dissected before returning whatever remains to the article. I don't think Ross rifle bayonet would ever count as notable enough for a seprate article.GraemeLeggett 16:16, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:CCM CYCO Speeder skates blade Weston Canada.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:CCM CYCO Speeder skates blade Weston Canada.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. MECU≈talk 23:36, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair Use Image Use
Per Wikipedia's Fair Use policy, images used under the fair use clause may not be used outside of the article namespace. This includes talk pages, user pages. It's okay to link to them, but not display them. Thank you for your understanding. --MECU≈talk 23:36, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hold on, I see you uploaded those images, and that you say you made them. The meta data supports this. This is a simple case of mis-licensing. You have marked them as fair use, which does not apply here. What is needed is for you to release the images under another license that is compatible with our project.
- To do this simply replace the text:
{{logo}} {{Orphaned fairuse not replaced|month=December|day=15|year=2006}}
- with one of the compatible copyright templates such as {{Cc-by-2.0}}. Then they are welcome on your talk page as long as it is related to the encyclopedia. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 02:43, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
Did you take this picture yourself? -- tariqabjotu 05:59, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
Yes, i am just updating the image copyright formatting.--John Zdralek 06:04, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- You can't call these Creative Commons / GFDL images, and then place a Wikipedia-only restriction on them. They're incompatible. You need to fix this, or they'll be redeleted. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 06:55, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
ok, the note is for the user's incomplete reading of GFDL, i will modify the note
- Okay. Apologies if I misunderstand what it means, but it reads like that. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 07:08, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- You do realize that by placing the images under these licenses, your request does not need to be granted? Do you fully understand the consequences of the free licenses you've placed these images under? -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 10:22, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- I actually meant that anyone, Wikipedian or not, is allowed to take the images and do several things with them, including using them in commercial works, if you put it under a free license. That's the nature of a free license. The Creative Commons attribution license just requires that they attribute the work to you, nothing more. Just trying to make sure you realize that the request you put in the information box carries no weight, and is just a request. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 05:20, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Foothills Medical Centre
Hi. Could you explain this edit of yours, which added back the copy right violation, which I had removed. This is a very large amount of copyrighted text, well beyond what's covered by fair use. You're edit summary doesn't seem to address the issue of the legal status of useage of this text. Generally, non-free copyrighted material should compose a small fraction of the overall article. In this case, you've made the article become mainly a copyright violation. Aside from the quantity of the nonfree copyrighted text, is the issue of useage. You're not actually providing commentary on the "borrowed" material. Rather, you're simply using it, to avoid the effort of writing original content. Facts can't be copyrighted. So, if you want to include the relevant facts, simply write new words, stating those facts, and citing hte web site, as a source. --Rob 02:24, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, does anyone else agree with you? I would like to the share the information using the best form of communication possible which would be the globally accessible websites and search engines of Wikipedia and Google. I would also like to add the entire booklet as a separate article. Thank you--John Zdralek 06:40, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- by the way the infobox and photo are excellent, really amazing how an article begins to take shape with collaboration, although the perspective view makes other buildings look a little more human scale and less star wars theme shaped ...in a building far far away.--John Zdralek 06:51, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Please read our fair use policy at Wikipedia:Fair use#Text, which says "In general, extensive quotation of copyrighted news materials (such as newspapers and wire services), movie scripts, or any other copyrighted text is not fair use and is prohibited by Wikipedia policy.". Also, I please don't try to "add the entire booklet", as it is copyrighted, and it would actually be illegal to duplicate it. --Rob 10:40, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- i'd like to see more real stuff to buy digital stuff ... no wait i'd like to see more digital stuff to buy the real stuff and go see it too. i don't think it really matters. long or short run. unless you've got your market cornered and linked in real time and a whisper campaign going on. i'll see how i can work around it. by the way what are the numbers that keep appearing in brackets infront of 'Edit summaries' ? (see below) whup forgot signature--John Zdralek 11:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Please do not re-upload image that is deleted for copyright problems, without fixing the problem. You should discuss such matters with others, and only make another upload, after your certain the image would be allowed. Questions about copyright can be asked at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. There is no fair use claim for Image:1966 Patient Care Foothills Hospital Calgary cover.jpg, and probably never will be. You can't illustrate an article about a hospital with a cover of a pamphlet. We use book covers a lot, but they are to illustrate articles (or sections) about the book. --Rob 16:24, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

- and probably never will be? is there another stealth wiki out there that you can direct me to for Foothills Hospital so I'm not wasting my time turning my hair grey uploading images I personally like?--John Zdralek 16:50, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Patient Care Foothills Hospital Calgary 1966.jpg
You re-uploaded this image, which was previously deleted. In the past, you claimed fair use. Now, your claiming its under a free license. You don't have the legal right to do that. Scanning an image gives you *no* rights whatsoever. The publisher probably hold the rights, and its unlikely they've released any. Be advised, repeatedly uploading copyvio images is a blockable offense. Do not do it again. --Rob 08:50, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- it sounds kind of bad when someone tells someone else they have not rights, regardless
