Jon Thorne

Jon Thorne (born 12 February 1967) is an English double bassist based in Reddish, Stockport. Born in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire UK he lived in Zimbabwe from the age of 6 to 11. He started playing in his early twenties. He studied and played jazz for a number of years following and considers Danny Thompson his mentor. He has recorded with a wide variety of artists including: Robert Miles, Trilok Gurtu, Robert Fripp, Guy Barker, Iain Ballamy, Badly Drawn Boy, Clare Teal and Lamb.
Since the formation of the successful group Lamb, Thorne has acted as an unofficial third member with his most potent contribution on the group's second album Fear of Fours. This album showcased his seamless and inspired integration of the double bass with modern electronica influences, with melodicism, groove and textural sensitivity. He often speaks about the spiritual and metaphysical aspects involved with playing and approaching an instrument. His debut solo album "Manchester Road" was released in August 2006.
