[edit] DYK
If you think the current (I think) nineteen proposed DYKs are okay, then I think we can move them into the seven articles. I would suggest making it as balanced as possible for each day: a bit auxlang, a bit artlang, and at least one famous language per day. —IJzeren Jan In mij legge alle fogultjes een ij 22:29, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- And well, that's a beginning: the new DYK hasn't been online for five minutes, and an anonymous user has already vandalised the Brithenig page! —IJzeren Jan In mij legge alle fogultjes een ij 23:27, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Conlang project/portal
Thanks for the invite, I'll add myself to the participants list but as I am currently trying to finish my Master's thesis don't expect much from me for a month or so :) What is the "official" policy on inclusion of auxlangs btw.? There are zillions of 'em, many of them yet another improved esperanto or yet another simplified latin and I don't think it is feasible to include them all. --Kaleissin 16:14, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I think this is typically one of those discussions we need to have on the WikiProject page (the "To Do" section). Perhaps we should move it there? —IJzeren Jan In mij legge alle fogultjes een ij 13:32, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Congratulations!!!
Coming back from Germany, where I spent a few days, I see that you are now the proud father of one Featured Portal! :) —IJzeren Jan In mij legge alle fogultjes een ij 12:53, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Portal:Linguistics and Portal:Languages
I think it would be fine keeping them seperate. There's certainly enough articles to justify both, and I think there's some people who're interested in languages, but not (atleast as much) the rest of linguistics. Hopefully more people will work on the Linguistics one; I'll try to get around to doing some more this weekend. I certainly would be interested in helping out with the Languages portal. Is there anything in particular that needs work at present? --Mairi 06:16, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] LDS alert
Hello! As you have contributed to LDS/Mormon articles in the past, this is a friendly heads-up that Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_temples_of_The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints is currently being discussed. Any comments you have regarding the issue would be appreciated. Thanks! —akghetto talk 11:08, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject LDS
Hello! I noticed you were on the list of members in the LDS WikiProject, and I was wondering if you were still interested in helping out there. You see, over the past few months, it appears that it has slowly drifted into inactivity. But you CAN help. Please consider doing both of the following:
- Take ONE thing form the To-Do list and do it. Once you're done with it, remove it from the list, and from the<>{{Template:LDSprojectbox}}<>, so we know its done. Keep the page on your watchlist. We have a backlog going for more than half a year. Please help to work on it, and remove it.
- Vote on the LDSCOTF, and work on it!
- Tell your friends (esp. LDS friends, & esp. Wikipedian friends) about this WikiProject, and enocourage them to join (and be active).
Remember: your involvement in this WikiProject is just that - involvement! Please help us out.
(Note: I'm sending this out to everyone who's name was on the membership list, so I will NOT be watching this page for a response. If you want to contact me, do it on MY talk page, please.)
Thanks for all that you do -Trevdna 15:46, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Language templates
Hi, I noticed your question regarding the {ll} template. Just wanted to let you know that you can still use the {lang} template to add text metadata to mark it as non-English (e.g., you can write {{lang|ru|Бла}} to mark text as Russian). There are also separate templates doing the same thing but also adding the language link before the text. E.g., {{lang-ru|Бла}} will look like:
Russian: Бла
The ones of this sort I know are lang-ru and lang-uk, but you can always create new ones by analogy. Hope this helps.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) 20:39, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Turin Section
I do not entirely agree with you on this issue, but am willing to go along at the moment during the Olympics. I am not certain this section should remain for too long after that, but we shall see. You may restore it with my blessing. Indrian 02:11, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- You know, it has been a couple of days, and the edit war you feared has not yet occurred. No one has put back in the section I removed or even complained about it, and no one has tried to substitute a similar section. As a result, I am even less sure it is really needed. The reason I am against the section in general is because it has nothing to do with the city itself. Whether Americans call the place Turin or Torino has absolutely no bearing on the city itself and is therefore pretty irrelevant. In light of that, I suggest leaving the section out for now. If the Olympics do result in the English speaking world changing their spelling of the city, the issue can be revisited again. Please let me know what you think. Indrian 01:56, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] FoxTrot
Were you the person who originally put FoxTrot up for peer review? If you are, can you help me find the original request for peer review, so someone can resubmit a request and have the article reviewed again? Mred64 05:12, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- I was the one who archived the review itself. But I'm looking for the request for peer review, not the actual review itself, so I can request review again. I've tried looking at most of last year's request for peer review archives, but I haven't been able to find it yet. Mred64 03:10, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My two cents on the merge issue
I don't agree that a merge of the Lincoln Cent and Cent (U.S. coin) articles is a good idea. While related, they are two seperate topics. The Lincoln cent is only one type of penny so the U.S. cent article is needed to cover the general information about the topic. But the Lincoln cent is an important topic in its own right and deserves an individual article.
I will concede however that the U.S. cent article as it now exists focuses too narrowly on the Lincoln cent. A lot of that information should be moved to the Lincoln cent article and information of other U.S. pennies like the Flying Eagle or Indian Head cents should be added for balance. [edit] Children's Literature WikiProject
Hi! I see you've expressed interest in a children's literature wikiproject in the past. A bit ago, I put up a project proposal, and I wonder if you'd be interested. Even though there's only a few interested participants so far, I think there's so much to do that I'd like to formalise the process. Check out the draft list of projects I've begun; nobody but me has contributed yet but more input is welcome. Deborah-jl Talk 16:11, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:Slcflag.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Slcflag.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. <font color="green">A</font>dmrb♉ltz <small>(T | C | k)</small> 01:40, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:browsebar_graphic
Hi Jon, I noticed you said you created this template and were disappointed with the hullaballoo about getting rid of it. Personally, I agree with you and think that the browse bar does look better with pictures to illustrate the portals' contents, and I have used it on Portal:Christianity since its creation. Unfortunately, it appears that most people want to just have a bland browsebar without any graphics, although perhaps this is partly to decrease strain on the server (who knows?). Still, don't give up yet - there are people out there who do like your template and think it is awesome! Cheers, Brisvegas 22:34, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] KUTV's involvement in the CBS-Westinghouse deal
Say, Jon, you have any idea why KUTV was involved in the 1995 deal between CBS and Westinghouse. I can see why NBC sold off KCNC-TV in Denver--it bought WCAU-TV in Philadelphia and couldn't keep both without going over the ownership limit. But KUTV? I didn't get that. [edit] Fair-use image removed from your user page
Hello, JonMoore. I've removed Image:Slcflag.jpg from User:JonMoore/Salt Lake City infobox, as it is a copyrighted image that is being used under a claim of fair use. Unfortunately, by Wikipedia policies, no fair-use images can be used on user pages; please see Wikipedia:Removal of fair use images. This image has not been deleted from any articles. If you have any questions, please let me know. —Bkell (talk) 23:32, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Sci Fi Channel (United States) programs
Ello there, Jon.. I'd rather like for you to give your input on the future of List of Sci Fi Channel (United States) programs since it may invariably suffer the same fate as Other films aired on The SciFi Channel, so please do so if time permits. I feel it a rather pertinant piece of information concerning the Sci Fi Channel, and its demise may compromise the article in its entirety. DrWho42 05:02, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Trying again
I don't know how often you actually come to Wikipedia nowadays, since I haven't seen you around much lately, but if you happen to come and take a look, just note that I'm trying yet again to get Salt Lake City, Utah up to featured article status. I've added tons of references, the image problems have been taken care of, and unnecessary content has been trimmed (although it could still use some trimming). I've resubmitted it for peer review yet again to get final feedback. It still needs some more references; if you see this, if you know where you got some of the information you added so long ago (and where User:Cool Hand Luke got his info, since I know he's not on Wikipedia anymore), and could add references to it, that would be great. References are the last major hurdle needed to get this to FA status (finally!) and there's some stuff I wouldn't be able to find references for. Anyway, it should be up for FAC once the appropriate references are found, but I can't do it all by myself. bob rulz 12:01, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, is it possible to incorporate non-Internet links into in-line references like we have on the page? That would satisfy me (and them, I think). Also, nobody's responded to my peer review yet...anyway, I'm still learning about inline references, so if it's possible to incorporate the non-URLs into the note/inline reference system (whatever you want to call it) that would be great. I don't have time at this particular moment to look it over, otherwise I would. And I'm glad to know you're still around every once in a while. Hope to see you around more. bob rulz 23:51, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Also
Hi Jon. I noticed your comments at the review and felt a little bad as you've engaged with the article. The principal problem is the in-line citations. While it's tough if you've worked on an old FA, the consensus is that those will always be removed and if we're doing that with others we have to do it with this one too. So don't take it badly when this loses status, as appears likely soon. I notice you're on a Wiki-break--hope to see you back soon. Marskell 14:11, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with you about comprehensiveness. People ought to be expected show what's absent before judging the article on that basis. But, for or better worse, the in-line citation rule has become quite firm. More optimistically, because that article is short if some did have their hands on the sources, fulfulling the criteria would be easier. Marskell 10:21, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Corradini.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Corradini.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok ☠ 03:52, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
