Kayak.com
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kayak.com is a website that helps consumers find travel deals from more than 100 other travel sites. It is commonly referred to as a travel search engine or metasearch site. Kayak.com is not a travel agency. The company does not sell airline tickets or hotel rooms or rental car reservations. Instead, it directs consumers to other travel sites where they can make these purchases directly. There are no fees to use Kayak.com.
The company was established in January 2004 by ex-founders of Orbitz, Travelocity, and Expedia. It is headquartered in Norwalk, CT and has an R&D center in Concord, MA. Kayak.com has raised $30 million to date, and its investors include Sequoia Capital, America Online, General Catalyst Partners, and Accel Partners.
Similar to Google, Kayak.com makes money when people click on the advertising on its website.
