KGCW-TV is a CW affiliate for the Quad Cities. The station, which is owned by Burlington Television Acquisitions (a subsidiary of Grant Broadcasting, making it a sister station to KLJB-TV), broadcasts at analog channel 26/digital channel 41 and is licensed to Burlington, Iowa. Its transmitter is located near Aledo, Illinois.
KGCW's full-powered signal fails to cover the Quad Cities adequately, as low-powered MyNetworkTV affiliate WBQD-LP also broadcasts on channel 26. However, this is made up by the station being available on cable systems in the area and on KLJB's DT2 subcarrier.
[edit] History
KGCW signed on the air in 1984 as KJMH, an independent station. In 1987, the station signed with Fox as an affiliate, but in the years that followed KJMH suffered interference and duplication from nearby Fox affiliate KLJB-TV. Eventually, the two stations began to simulcast, an arrangement that lasted from 1996 until 2001, when KJMH became The WB affiliate for the Quad Cities, adopting the KGWB-TV call sign. In 2006, the station was picked as The CW Television Network affiliate for the area. To reflect this affiliation, KGWB changed its call letters to KGCW-TV on June 30, 2006. The current CW logo is not in the standard CW logo color, which is green.
