[edit] History
WBUI's on-air run began in the early 1980s as WFHL, which was owned and operated by the Four Square Church. In 1997, it was sold to Paxson Communications, becoming WPXU. WPXU call letters are now used by an i affiliate in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Acme acquired the station from Paxson in 1999. WBUI airs the weekday morning newscast, The Daily Buzz, from 6-9 AM, which is produced jointly between WBUI parent ACME Communications and Emmis Communications. It is the Central Illinois affiliate for St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
[edit] The CW
On January 24, 2006, the WB and UPN networks announced that they would merge. The newly combined network would be called The CW, the letters representing the first initial of its corporate parents CBS (the parent company of UPN) and the Warner Bros. unit of Time Warner.
On March 9, 2006, it was announced that WBUI will become an affiliate of The CW Television Network in September 2006. WBUI's branding became Central Illinois' CW after the network switch.
