Kinta is an administrative district of the state of Perak, Malaysia, and it is divided into three major councils. Ipoh City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh), based in Ipoh, is also the capital of the state of Perak. Kinta Barat District Council (Majlis Daerah Kinta Barat) is based in the town of Batu Gajah. Kinta Selatan District Council (Majlis Daerah Kinta Selatan) is based in town of Kampar.
The District Council (Majlis Daerah) will normally be enlarged according to population growth to Municipality (Majlis Perbandaran) and finally to City Council (Majlis Bandaraya). In Malaysia only three cities are known as City Hall (Dewan Bandaraya). They are Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu. Other cities are just known as City Councils (Majlis Bandaraya).
