KMYI broadcasts a HD2 multicast channel, airing an adult album alternative music format branded as "Amy".

[edit] History

KMYI signed on in 1948 adopting the call letters KFSD-FM - simulcasting AM radio station KFSD (now KOGO) airing a MOR music format.

In 1956, KFSD-FM adopted the classical music format which it retained until January 13, 1997 when it dropped the format in favor of classic hits branded as "The Eagle".

KFSD was sold by Lotus Communications to Nationwide Communications in 1996 followed by a change of call letters to KXGL on February 3, 1997 to better match the rebranding to "The Eagle".

KXGL was acquired in 1998 by Jacor/Citicasters (later to be acquired by Clear Channel Communications).

On August 17, 1998, KXGL dropped the classic hits music format and call letters adopting an adult contemporary music format under the call letters, KJQY to match the change in branding to "K-Joy".

On November 21, 2001, KJQY swapped formats and call letters with "Mix 95.7", also owned by Clear Channel, and for a short time was known as KMSX "Mix 94.1", and played Christmas music until December 26, 2001, when it acquired the KMYI call letters and became known as "my 94.1" and adopted the present hot AC format. The format was being simulcasted in Temecula, California on KMYT until December 2, 2004, when KMYT switched to a smooth jazz format.

On September 19, 2005, Jeff and Jer came to KMYI, and the station rebranded as STAR 94.1, picking up both the morning show and the moniker of the former "Star 100.7", which had switched to a Jack FM format earlier in 2005.

[edit] Star on your Car

Star 94.1 wanted to "bribe" their listeners to remain loyal listeners, so, Star came up with the idea to have people put Star 94.1 bumper stickers on their car. The contest started on September 3, 2006, and ended at 3:36 PM Pacific Time on September 14, 2006, when they passed their 10,000 sticker limit, on the 14th. Also, on September 14th, morning show hosts Jeff & Jer hosted an all day telethon, that started at 6AM Pacific Time. When the contest was active, San Diegans could receive a Star sticker from their website, via the San Diego Union-Tribune on September 3rd, and at San Diego County Domino's Pizza locations. People could also receive the sticker from the Star "Fun & Games" team at various Westfield Shoppingtown malls throughout San Diego County on September 14th.

The contest was partnered with Mazda of Escondido and the San Elijo Hills housing development.

During the contest, Star had recorded various parody songs. They parodied a song from Mister Roger's Neighborhood, with lyrics such as, "It's a beautiful day to put Star (sticker) on your car, won't you please." The other parody song parodied "Cars" by Gary Numan, with lyrics that went like "Put Star on you car, and you could win a new car."

On September 14th, 2006, Jeff & Jer received the Miata entries, they chose a German woman's entry form. Jeff & Jer later decided to drive the Mazda MX-5 Miata to the office she worked at, to surprise her in front of her co-workers.
