XHLNC-FM (identified on-air as XLNC1) is a noncommercial classical music radio station in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico broadcasting on 90.7 MHz. It broadcasts in English and Spanish serving the Tijuana and San Diego areas with studios in Chula Vista. The station was started by Victor Diaz. Upon his death, Diaz stipulated that the station continue as a classical station.
[edit] Controversy
The station is licensed for a Class A 1000 watt signal, but due to the highly directional (and questionably legal) signal to the north[citation needed], it interferes frequently with Los Angeles's KPFK (on the same frequency). The frequency was assigned by the Mexican government according to the terms of a treaty between the US and Mexico concerning radio stations near the Border. However, there are reports that XHLNC-FM actually violates the treaty in several ways. XHLNC-FM has reportedly applied for a frequency change to avoid interference.
