Koltsovo International Airport (Russian: Аэропорт Кольцово) (IATA: SVX, ICAO: USSS) is an airport located 16 km southeast of Yekaterinburg, in Koltsovo, Russia. The airport is a hub for Ural Airlines, Aviaprad and Aviacon Zitotrans.
The airport was opened in 1928 as a military airbase and became a civilian airport on July 10, 1943. In October 1993 it acquired international status.
As of 2005, Koltsovo is the fifth largest airport in Russia and a member of Airports Council International (ACI). 1,461,070 passengers and 20,958,800 tons of cargo were transported in 2004. The airport has sixty aircraft stands and serves more than 50 destinations worldwide including a dozen in Europe.
Koltsovo's new international terminal, which was opened on December 16, 2005 and which is now considered to be the best airport terminal in Russia, has a capacity of 600 passengers per hour. Another terminal for internal flights is now under construction and is expected to be twice larger than the new international terminal. The airport also includes a catering section and a terminal for VIP passengers. A logistic center with a large cargo terminal is now also under cunstruction. By 2009 it is expected that a third runway will be constructed to let Koltsovo accept all types of aircraft including Boeing 747.
