마틴 가드너

마틴 가드너(Martin Gardner, 1914년 10월 21일 ~ )는 미국 오클라호마 주 출신의 놀이 수학자(recreational mathematician)로 사이언티픽 어메리칸지의 수학 게임(mathematical games)란을 오랜기간 집필한 것으로 유명하다.
오클라호마 주 털사 태생으로 거의 혼자서 20세기의 놀이수학(recreational mathematics)을 지키고 키워왔다. 그는 마술에도 관심이 있고, 제임스 랜디와 함께 회의주의 운동도 했다. 그는 현재 미국 노스캐럴라이나 주의 Henderesonville에 살고 있다.
1933년이래 그의 놀이수학에 대해 관심을 같이하는 사람들이 부정기적으로 모여 'Gathering for Gardner란 컨퍼런스를 열기도 한다.
그의 수학 컬럼에서, 그는 다음과 같은 흥미있는 주제들을 대중에 소개했다.
65권의 책을 썼으며, 초정상주장의 과학적 연구를 위한 위원회(Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal)의 일원으로 활동하며 사이비과학을 반박하는 책과 글을 다수 발표했다.
