List of Governors of New York

This is a list of the Governors of New York. The Governor of the U.S. state of New York is the highest executive officer of the state, was originally chosen for a term of two years. In 1877 the term of office was extended to three years, in 1895 reduced back to two years, and in 1938 it was extended to the current four-year term.
The current Governor, the 58th, is Eliot Spitzer, who took office on New Year's Day, 2007.
Since 1875, the home of the Governor has been the New York State Executive Mansion in Albany, New York.
